Mr. & Mrs. Danny M. Whitford, left to right area representatives from Vanceboro, attended officer training seeting along with daughter Patricia and Buster Connor. Buster Connor stands in front of cottage named in his honor. Woodmen Meet Over 500 Woodmen and their families were in attendance at the annual officer’s workshop held Saturday at the J. Ed. Williams Woodmen of the World Youth Camp at Fort Barnwell in Craven County. This group represented over 60,000 members in 44 Eastern North Carolina Counties. It was a time for family recreation in the swimming pool, on the volleyball and basketball court, and a time for hearing area managers and lodge officers bring up to date information to those in attendance. The information will be used in local groups to up date members of Woodmen activities. Bill Butler of Oak City, N.C. was one of the speakers for the workshop. Other persons or groups instrumental in the workshop were Buster Connor, Dover, N.C., who is a Woodman Field Representative, Area Youth Leader, Charter Member of the Camp Board and present treasurer, plus he is responsible for maintenance of the grounds and swimming pool. Mr. Harvey Bedsole, State WOW manager was the coordinator for the workshop and was on hand to keep the workshop meetings on schedule. Mr. Earl Hughes, a Fraternal Coordinator and Youth Camp Director, was on hand to explain to visitors the operation of the camp and to show the facilities. He will start receiving campers June 18, Monday through Friday for their summer program which will be in session for six weeks. The Mount Olive Police Explorer Post 46 was in attendance to help with parking. The director for the post isMount Olive PoliceChief John W. Hodges, and the advisors are Ralph Coley and Danny Massey of the Mount Olive Police Department. Other items of interest for the Camp are: Swimming Pool, Gym facilities. Volleyball Court, Bath houses, and Cottages for 270 .people. ,, . , Three of the Woodmen are busy cooking hush puppies for the annual event.
