Page 10, West Craven Highlights, May 24, 1904 Talent Winner in Womanless Beauty Contest—Perry Morris. Craven County Cloggers doing their thing. Vanceboro Strawberry Festival /Rescue Day Was A Success Continued from page 1 Festival Champions. Saturday night a few of the gentlemen turned out for a Womanless Beauty Contest. This group gave a tremendous amount of entertainment to those attending. Colie Miller, Jr., was 1st place winner; Perry Morris, talent winner: Carroll Briley won ugliest; and Terry Morris took the honor of prissiest. The dedication of the Weyerhaeuser Shelter in the Vanceboro Park was another Saturday high light. Mr. Keith Hundley was on hand to represent the Weyerhaeuser Comp any. Mention was made by Mayor Jimmie Morris of the many contributions made by the company to the Vanceboro com munity. The bridge across the ditch to the park was presented to the town by the Vanceboro Jr. Woman’s Club and the retired school personnel presented a picnic table to the park shelter. As the Mayor noted it takes community effort to have a successful program. Sunday afternoon was the time scheduled for dedication and ribbon cutting for opening the 55’ers Center, located in the old town hall. Mayor Jimmie Morris, Commis sioners Sidney French and Roger Forrest, Ms. Lucille Stewart, and Rev. Ralph Bennett were on the program to make this a successful event. The Havelock Rescue Department gave a rescue demonstration using the latest Hurst extraction equipment. The team opened a small car just like opening a tin can. The final event of the festival was the Timothy Community doggers. They gave the people some good old fashion down home clogging and string music. Booth Keeper stays busy teaching two young ladies the fineVp art of craft making.
