Page 4, West Craven Highlights, May 24,1984 CHURCH /\ Sharing Good News By DOROTHY FILLINGAME The good news from the Word of God for this week comes from Matthew 4:11 and James 4:7. After Jesus was baptized in Jordan and the anointing of the Holy Ghost came upon Him,He went into the wilderness to fast and pray. We know from God’s Word how Satan came to tempt the Son of God. He wanted Jesus to sin and bow down to him. Jesus Christ did not rail out at the devil; nor did He run from Satan. But He gave Satan the Word and answered each temptation with, “It is written.” The Lord has given us the strength we need to stand firm before Satan, too, through the power of the anointing of the Holy Ghost on our lives. He has given us the power of His Word, the sword of truth, to use against the enemy during every battle. The Word tells us to resist the devil and he would flee from us. Jesus taught us how to resist the enemy. Jesus Christ was victorious over the wiles of Satan in the wilderness because He resisted the enemy with the authority of the Word of God. Jesus used the Word to combat temptations all during His ministry here on earth. The Pharisees tried to entangle Him in his teachings and also sent a lawyer to question Him; trying to tempt Him, Jesus answered them with the Word. On one occasion He told the Sadducers, “Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.” We, as Christians, must learn the Word of God, that powerful weapon, and learn to use it effectively. Are we losing battles because we lack the anointing of the Holy Ghost and the knowledge of His Holy Word? We must have the weapons, if we expect to win the battles. Don^t Lose Your Influence By REBA MITCHELL Along the path way of life, all we do has an influence on someone, they are watching you and me. Don’t fret and worry when things go wrong. Take the cup of salvation Ps. 116:13, and let the joy of God’s love shine in you . Rom. 14:17, 15:13. Lift your eyes unto the Hills, look up. Ps. 121. Never point a finger but lend a hand to lift them up where they can see the pure sunshine. Friendships are formed when we show ourselves to be friendly. Love is an ingredient placed in man by God. It shows at all times. United with God this great love will touch a heart, and yearn to help him. Encourage the weak and lift them up to prayer and deeds. Never turn a deaf ear to their needs. Cheery smiles will brighten the way. Every eye around is watching you. Your life is an influence to someone. The influence will never die. How will your life affect others?
