Volume 7, Number 23^^ l&J^agOa 20 Cents Vanceboro, North Carolina Phone 244-0780 Third Male in est Craven High School's History Named Valedictorian Stacy Ray Lee Four years of continuous effort has paid high dividends to West Craven High School Senior Stacy Ray Lee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Lee of Vanceboro and Ernul. This week Mr. Robert Jolly, principal, announced Stacy as the Valedictorian for the Senior Class of 1984. Stacy’s activities at West Craven have not been limited to just curriculum but he has participated in many extra curricular activities during the past four years. He has held a part-time job in the local pharmacy; participated in the WCHS Band as a member of the marching band. Jazz Band, Concert Band, Drum Major, and saxophone player; active in Spanish Club, Spanish Honor Society, National Honor Society; Bible Club; Bi Chem Phi and a host of awards from the school and community. Among his awards were certificates of Honor; certificate of Achievement; certificate of Merit; Algebra, English, Biology and Citizenship awards. During his Junior year, he served as Chief Marshall and received the honor of attending the Governor’s School in the field of math. He was selected as the Vanceboro Junior Woman’s Club Scholarship Recipient and has been active in his community and church. He has served his community well through his active part in the Boy Scout Troop 58. In the scouting program, he be- • me the youngest boy to receive the Eagle Scout award and Ids the record for Merit Badges completed (53). He received many other scouting awards including the award of Merit from Congressman Walter B. Jones. In the Vanceboro United Methodist Church, he has held many positions of importance; UMYF President, Treasurer, Publicity; Annual Conference Youth Delegate; and New Bern Sub-District President. To those he has touched in his school community, and church, Stacy has a good name for trying to set the example. He agrees that this is not always easy to do but setting goals, working hard and having determination will pay off in big dividends. This summer Stacy will be working with Weyerhaeuser and next fall he plans to attend N.C. State University and Major in Pulp & Paper Technology and Chemical Engineering. Stacy Lee is the third male student in West Craven's history to achieve this coveted honor. Doug Jones, Class of 1974 was the ^^rst male recipient; Second was Charles Cahoon, Class of ^^fD76. The school was established in 1971. Students of Mrs. Betty Gladson, piano teacher, presented a music recital on Friday night, June 1, at Farm Life Elementary School. Participating students were: Susan Bowers, Crystal Anderson, Carla Braxton, Melanie Frieman, Isaac Evans, Joshua Hayes, Kim Ipock, Amy Wiggins, Susan Lewis, Kathryn Eatmon, LaJeanna Smith, Charlie Lee, June 7 - June 13,1984 Cynthia Dawn Register Named Salutatorian WCHS Receives Coaches’ Award for outstanding sportsmanship, dependability, concentrated effort in the athletic program at West Craven High School. Music Recital Held Dorothy Hellen, Minnette Woolard, Elizabeth Town send, Tracy Russell, Stacy Boyd, Jerri Mounce, Jennifer Mayo, Lori Gray, Casey Holland, Sherry Ormond, Heather Dudley, Dora Lewis, Linda Frieman, Shannon Dudley, Sherry Ipock, Martha Townsend, Susan Nobles, Wayne Barrow, Barry Spear, Kenneth Townsend and Sandra Manning. Susan Bowers gave the first performance at the recital of Mrs. Betty Gladson's piano students. Cynthia Dawn Register Cindy Register, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Register of Cove City, has been named Salutatorian for West Craven High School 1984 Senior Class by Mr. Robert Jolly, principal. Miss Register has main tained a high scholastic average during the past four years at West Craven. Her extracurricular activities have included Color Guard Captain with West Craven’s Marching Band; Bi Chem Pi Club, Spanish Honor Society; and National Honor Society, serving as its president one year. Awards for Miss Register have included citizenship award, Who’s Who Among American High School Students; and the U.S. Achievement Academy Math Award. Miss Register plans to enter Peace College at Raleigh, N.C. this fall and major in Pharmacy. Dr. Cohen Dr. Steven I. Cohen was recently elected secretary- treasurer of the Palmer Chiropractic College Alumni Association of North Carolina. Dr. Cohen received his Doctorate of Chiropractic (DC) in 1977 from Palmer College. Dr. Cohen has practiced in the Greenville-Winterville area for the last six years.
