Solicitation Reported Confusing Business and professional firms in eastern North Carolina may be confusing listings in a private national "classified directory" with Yellow Pages advertising in their local telephone directories. B.C. Dixon, Carolina Telephone and Telegraph Company directory manager, said the solicitation by Intra State Telecommunications of New York, N.Y., has no connection with Carolina Telephone. "I have received inquires from a number of business people in Carolina Tele phone’s service area who thought they were buying space in our company’s telephone directory,” Dixon said. “In view of Intra State Telecommunications’ ap proach, we at Carolina Telephone are concerned that our customers could be misled by the material they are receiving to believe that this is a solicitation for Carolina Telephone Yellow Pages. Carolina Telephone is in no way related to Intra State Telecommunications of New York, N.Y., and any space purchased from them will appear in their publication and not in the familiar Yellow Pages of our telephone book.” TH. Let Os stand nuudly ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ Ms. Linda Staunch, Public Information Officer at CCH. CCH Public Information Officer Speaks To Rotarians Ms. Linda Jenkins Staunch gave the Vanceboro Rotarians some information concerning her work with Craven County Hospital as their Public Information Officer. Her job is to present the facts and create a favorable public opinion of the hospital. Ms. Staunch is very well qualified to fill the position. Her undergraduate work was done at Peace College, and University of North Carolina and her Master’s Degree is from East Carolina University. Her job with the hospital began In March of 1983. Ms. Staunch stated to the Rotarians that the hospital’s financial situation is good even though occupancy is down. She gave the new method of Medicare payments as the reason for the low occupancy. Each case is given a group rating and Medicare pays for a maximum number of days for hospital care. This means patients are released by the hospital earlier than has been practiced in the past. Craven County Hospital receives 63% of its patients from Craven County, 9% from Pamlico County, 6% from Jones, and the remainder from Onslow, Beaufort, Carteret, Cherry Point, and Camp LeJeune according to Ms. Staunch. She stated the hospital is the 3rd largest employer in Craven County. The hospital has 254 beds available and plans are to open an additional 46 beds in the fall of this year. The.daily cost for the semi private rooms is $129 and private rooms are $139. Ms. Staunch stated 45-50 percent of patient load is under Medicare. The question of out patient care was posed to Ms. Staunch. Her reply was that the hospital has filed a letter of need and the hospital hopes to be moving into this type of care in the very near future. She said this would give the hospital additional revenues to make up for the earlier releases. Ms. Staunch ended her presentation by giving the hospital very high marks in all areas of health care. She pointed out that Craven County Hospital was designated as the primary support hospital for the president’s recent visit to, N.C.
