Patrick Forbis was sworn in as a full line law enforcement officer in the Vanceboro Police Department last week by Vanceboro Town Clerk Carol I pock. Officer Forbis is a very welcomed addition to the department according to Chief Billy Jewel. Chief Jewel has been seeking additional help in the department for the past two years. Officer Forbis is also a third year student in East Carolina University's Criminal Justice Department. His major area of concentration is law enforcement. Law enforcement is not new to Officer Forbis because his father has been in the business for the past 30 years and law enforcement has been a topic of discussion in their Fayetteville household over the years. When asked how did he choose Vanceboro as the place to get his experience in law enforcement, he replied, "I have relatives in the area and I came down visiting and became acquainted with Chief Jewel and here I am." Officer Forbis feels the practical experience will be of great value in his future education at ECU. He wants to relate the experience to his studies. He will be attending Basic Law Enforcement Certification in Jacksonville, N.C. from July 30 until September 7. Join with the citizens in welcoming this young man to our community.
