They are the new managers of the well known restaurant "Vera’s Diner" in Vanceboro. Brenda had several weeks of training under former manager, Sharon Bland. She realized right away this new job would be a challenge. Even her friends warned her of the long hours, the hard work, and the amount of planning it takes to operate a food service business. Brenda assures us, so far, she has enjoyed every minute of the operation. The same friendly and courteous employees are still there with that smile that tells you "we are here to give you the best service and food possible.” Brenda says it would be nice if everyone could call them by name, so we are listing them for our readers, all you have to do is put a person with the following names: Lucille Wilson, Hazel Ipock, Bessie Dawson, Clara Morris, Eulabell Fillingame, Frances Hudson, and Estella Bryant. Linwood has found that the word manager means loading the drink boxes, scrubbing the floor, opening at 5:00 a.m. and just being available for the heavy work. Linwood and Brenda will be expecting you to visit them. They open at 5 a.m. each morning and remain open until 9 p.m. on most days. They have added a wide variety of food to the menu so you can pick and choose to suit your appetite. Hot Air Balloon Rides Scheduled A Hot Air Balloon measuring 65 feet wide is scheduled to be available for rides at the new Azalea Mobile Homes lot near Vanceboro Saturday, July 28. The balloon is owned and operated by Iverson Mackensie of Aloft in Greenville. It will take about 45 minutes to blow the balloon to its full size and takes 10 men to assist in the inflation. The demonstration at Azalea Mobile Homes lot will be a teathered flight which means the riders will be able to experience aloftness with the balloon attached to the ground. The scheduled time to start inflating the balloon is set for 10 a.m. Rides will be available from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Free soft drinks and free balloons will be available to all visitors.
