Survivor Benefits Payable (Continued from cage 1) as a widow or widower if the marriage to the worker lasted 10 years or more. A lump-sum payment of $255 can be made to the worker’s eligible widow or widower, or, if nowne, to the worker’s child entitled to benefits. It is important for survivors to apply for benefits as soon as possibie after the worker’s death. When applying, survivors should have their own and the worker’s Sociai Security cards or a record of the numbers, birth certificates for any eligible children, marriage certificate, proof of the worker’s death, proof of age for the widow or widower, and Forms W-2 or self-employment tax returns for the past 2 years. Parents 62 or older will need to show they were dependent on the worker for their support.
