Bender Named Chairman Of UNC Endowment Campaign CHAPEL HILL—Dr. Neil C. Bender of New Bern has been named Jones County Chairman of the “Foundation for Excellence" and C.K. McCotter, Jr., and Mrs. William A. Rickey of New Bern have been named Craven County Chairmen of the “Foundations for Excellence" campaign to raise funds for the College of Arts and Sciences of the University of North Caroiina at Chapel Hill. Bender will lead local efforts in the campaign, which seeks funds for professorships, scholarships and fellowships at the University. The campaign will also provide for teaching and research programs, outreach efforts with North Carolina’s public schools, programs to increase computer use in the classroom and improvements to the general education program. “Foundations for Excellence" has a goal of $10 million in private support. The campaign is being conducted by a distinguished group of alumni and friends of the University, under the leadership of J. Scott Cramer, vice chairman of the board of Wachovia Corp. Chancellor Christopher C.
