a WTEB ve months ago, June 4th, 1984, public radio went on the air in eastern North Carolina. WTEB-FM signed on with 69,000 watts, at 89.5 FM and began serving a 17 county area from its home in New Bern. A project that was some five years in the making, WTEB now broadcasts from 6 a.m. until 2 a.m. 7 days a week. Their programming includes classical and jazz music, as well as news and public service information. Among the featured programs are ^^uctions from Parkway ^jjjj^munications, the broad cast service of U.S. News and World Report, and William F. Buckley's “Firing line", from the Longhorn Radio Network. Affiliation with National Public Radio is expected before the end of the year. This planned expansion will allow WTEB to offer programs such as “Morning Edition”, “All Things Considered", and the extremely popular “Prairie Home Companion”, from Minnesota Public Radio, and American Public Radio. “Partnership ’84,” the recently completed WTEB fundraiser will contribute toward making those pro gramming expansions pos sible. A total of over $35,000 was raised during the week of October 22-28, through donations and pledges. The staff of WTEB consist of: General Manager Robert Shoaf, a N.C. State graduate in Communications, originally from the triangle area. Program Director Stew Mones, a N.C. State graduate in Communications from WGH Q-WBPM in Kingston, N.Y., News Director Richard McDevitt a Communications media graduate of Appala chian State University, from Chapel Hill, Promotion Director Megan McGarvey, a N.C. State graduate in Communications from Have lock, Music Director Lionel Whitney, USMC retired from .t^^ksonville, and Traffic nRtor Jeanne Mallard, from Kinston.
