•V ^ .A. > ,41 > Solar “There’s going to be a whole new world of SOLAR in 1985 for North Carolina," said Bob Andron, rjewly elected chairman of the North Carolina Solar Energy Association at their recent annual statewide meeting in Greensboro, NC. “SOLAR has matured. People know that it works and that now it makes sense. The cost of electricity has almost doubled in the last four years in our state. Now people are buying SOLAR." The NCSEA will host "SOLAR 85“ (four-con- ferences-in-one) next October in Raleigh at the Civic Center. It will assemble builders, architects, utilities, and "passive solar" people together for the first time ever. "Experts from everywhere will convene to bring us up to date and thrust us into the next decade of SOLAR," said Andron. It will be one of the largest national conventions ever held at the Raleigh Civic Center. Other items on this year’s solar agenda include getting the solar tax credits extended after 1985, and to include the solar initiative in the energy credit program of the Home Builders Association. A person buying a home with solar features may be eligible for a higher mortgage. Other officers of the newly elected board include Tom West Craven Wells, Vice-Chairman; Pat Pierce, Secretary: and Ben Gravely, Treasurer, all of Raleigh, N.C. The newly elected board members include David Hardage of Charlotte and Danny McCall of Hickory. “There was an exciting spirit at this annual meeting that we’ve never seen before. SOLAR has become a credible source of energy in society. People shop for it like they would a refrigerator, whether Highlights, December 6, 1984, Page 3 it’s collectors on the roof or a home with plenty of windows on the south to capture and use the daily energy of sunshine," said Andron.
