West Craven Highlights, December 20, 1984, Page 13 Mr. and Mrs. Cecil G. Riddick COOKING DOWN EAST Fruitcake has been a Christmas tradition for years. Many peopie have their own special recipe. Some iike to venture out and try new ideas. Some like to substitute something different in an old recipe, or leave out something and add to, while others are looking for something entirely different. Here's a good and pretty Christmas cake. I got the recipe from a friend in '77. I've used it several times, and it brought many compliments. Banana Fruit Cake VA cups sifted flour 1 cup sugar V/2 tsp. salt 1 Vi tsp. baking powder 3-4 sliced bananas 2 cups nuts 1 lb. dates (3 cups) 1 (8 oz.) jar cherries, drained 4 eggs Sift flour with sugar, salt and baking powder in large bowl. Add dates, nuts, and cherries. Mix thoroughly with flour. mixture. In another bowl, beat bananas and eggs until light and fluffy. Fold in flour mixture. Bake in tube pan at' 350 degrees until cake tests done - about 2 hrs. Frost with ; powdered sugar icing. Decorate with candied; cherries and nuts, or as; desired. Country Wedding Anita Edwards Weds Cecil G. Riddick WILMAR—Anita W. Edwards and Cecil G. Riddick were united in marriage on Wednesday, November twenty-six at six o’clock at the home of the bride. The Rev. A.G. Smith performed the double-ring ceremony. Parents of the bride are the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Day Williams, and the bridegroom is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Charles Riddick. Music for the ceremony was provided by a country-western band for which the bridegroom is pianist. The bridegroom also was soloist and sang, "Welcome To My World", “With This Ring I Thee Wed", "Make Life Sweeter For You." Buggy seats were used for guest-seating, and burning lanterns provided the lighting. Pumpkins and bales of hay were also used as part of the setting. The bride was attired in a western two-piece ensemble of plum corduroy with a white lace-trimmed blouse. She wore a white cymbidium orchid. Attending the bridal couple were Denise Whichard, niece of the bride; and Shane Riddick, son of the bride groom. The wedding party also wore western attire. The bride is a graduate of. Chocowinity High School, and the bridegroom graduated from Bethel High School in Bethel. Following the ceremony, dinner was served from a hay wagon covered in red and white checkered linens with matching accessories. Highlighting the table was a large floral arrangement of chrysanthemums in fall colors that formed a turkey. Chili was served from a pot on an open fire. Cold drinks were served from wooden tubs. Elva and Ray Matthews provided the decorative setting. Mildred Mitchell of Grifton, N.C. catered. Approximately 140 guests attended.
