fport Barnwell Bulletin ^ By Mra. B.H. Mitchell Regular worship services will be held at St. John A.M.E. Zion Church on Sunday, Dec. 23rd. The pastor and officers would like to invite ali members and friends to join them in the worship services. Rev. A. B. Hobbs is pastor. * * * The District No. 11 Union Meeting of the Northwest “A" Conference will be held at St. Stephen F.W.B. Church in New Bern, N.C. on Dec. 28, 29 and 30. Friday night wiil be youth night to be in charge of the fprogram. There will be worship service on Saturday morning and a business session will be held at 2 p.m. All deacons and officers are urged to be present and on time. Elder J.O. Dawson is president and Elder J.T. Williams is vice president. Everyone is invited to attend. * * * All New Bern-Craven County Schools will be closed for Christmas Holidays and all drivers are asked to watch out for the children on the highways. “Happy Holidays to all." * * * Sad news came to Fort Barnwell again. Ms. Ella Levon Koonce, a former resident of Ft. Barnwell, died in Greensboro, N.C. December 11,1984. A funeral service was held at St. John A.M.E. Zion Church on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. and burial was in the Mitchell’s family cemetery. She was daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Koonce. Her father preceded her in death. Football Contest Winners The first place tie goes to Harry Wooten, 9-3, $10-3 pt. and Mary Green, 9-3, $10 - 3 pt. Second place goes to Luther Gentry, 9-3, $10-4 pts., and 3rd place goes to Vickie Moore with 8-4, $2 and 2 pts. Each baby born during the Christmas month will be presented to their parents to take home in a bright Christmas stocking. The stockings, which are donated by the Hospital Auxiliary, will be prepared for delivery by members of the CCH Nursery staff, and will provide a lasting memory of each infant’s birth date. Craven County Hospital is happy to be a part of this special event and wishes each new family a Merry Christmas. But it will not be an additional charge. The state sales tax will not be an additional charge because the 1984 N.C. General Assem bly made a similar reduction in the gross receipts tax included in utility rates. Both the addition of the sales tax and the corresponding reduction of the gross receipts tax will take effect on January 1. The stated reason for the change is to enable individuals who itemize their deductions on their federal income tax returns to claim the sales tax paid as a deduction.
