I Page 4, West Craven Highlights, December 20. 1984 CHURCH Juniper Chapel Ladies Auxiliary The Juniper Chapel Ladies Auxiliary held its December meeting Tuesday night, December 11, in the Fellowship Hall. There were twenty-three members present. A collection of $138.00 was taken up for the purchase of books for the Mount Olive College Library. The books will be given in memory of our former preacher, Mr. Stilley, and in honor of members IM.s. Vera Morris, Mrs. Rosa Wilson, Mrs. Julia Fillingame, Mrs. Annette Morris, and Mrs. Lula Morris. The auxiliary voted to send $10.00 to Mount Olive College for the Pre-Christmas program. This money will be taken out of the Sunday night offering. Plans for food preparation for the church pig picki..’ *0 be held Wednesday, December 19, at 7:00and forthe Christmas program on December 23 at 6:00 were established. Irene Morris was the program speaker. She gave a most inspirational message on "The Word Made Flesh." Members enjoyed holiday refreshments afterwards. Barbara Forrest Children Learn The True Meaning of Christmas Lennie Fornes and Joyce Woolard took the Kids Klub to Guardian Care Thursday, December 13, where they entertained the residents with a party. Songs and music were rendered by Melba Hawks, Betty Fornes, Lera Matella and the children. Crystal Fornes, Amy Swain, Melissa Elks, Kathy Leggett, Susan and Cindy Jordan and Minnett Woolard. Gifts were donated by the West Vanceboro Church of God and passed out along with things the children had made. Refreshments were served. The children were amazed the way the residents were so happy with their gifts. They learned how to give with love and expect nothing but thanks in return. Lennie Fornes Vanceboro Pentecostal Holiness Church Pageant Vanceboro Pentecostal Holiness Church will present a Christmas Program "To All People - The Unwanted Guest” on Sunday night, December 23, at 6 p.m. The program will be under the direction of Christian Education Director Harold Drake. Everyone is cordially invited to attend. Rev. James Norton is pastor. Woman's AuxiHary Sponsors Christmas Party The Woman's Auxiliary of the Vanceboro Pentecostal Holiness Church held their annual Christmas Party in the Rev. Dave Fulcher Fellowship Hall Sunday night, December 16, 1984. President Sister Pauline Waters welcomed each one. Rev. James Norton blessed the food and everyone enjoyed chicken salad, pimento cheese sandwiches, assorted desserts, nuts, lime punch and soft drinks. The Auxiliary Secretary and Treasurer. Sister Brenda Manning presented a gift to Rev. and Mrs. Norton and President, Sister Pauline Waters. Christian Education Director Harold Drake presented perfect attendance pins. Miss Lynda Evans presented the gifts to officers in the church. The children received gifts. The Christmas spirit flowed everywhere. They also enjoyed games under the direction of Sister Pauline. Sister Ruth Wiggins was 1st place winner and Sister Mildred Bright 2nd place in the contest the W.A.'s sponsored. 1st place prize was a ceramic Christmas tree and 2nd place a ceramic manger scene. , Christmas Supper The Adult Class of the Vanceboro Pentecostal Holiness Church enjoyed a Christmas supper Saturday night, December 8, 1984 in the Rev. Dave Fulcher Fellowship Hall. The meal consisted of Barbecued chicken. Bar B.Q., slaw, cornbread, hushpuppies, assorted beverages and desserts. Rev. James Norton blessed the food and everyone enjoyed the fellowship. Vanceboro Christian Church Vanceboro Christian Church Pageant-Party The Vanceboro Christian Church will present a Christmas Pageant entitled “Have You Any Room For Us”, this Sunday night December 23, at 7 p.m. A highlight for the event is that it is the first time that there has been a live tree covered with Christmas ornaments such as wreaths, trees, stars, etc., which were hand made by the youth of the church and placed in the Sanctuary. The young people portray the animals, the night that Jesus was born. The different characters are: The Inn-Keeper and his wife - Joseph, Mary, Mr. Ox, Mrs. Ox, Sheep-Dog, Camel and Sheep. The Christmas Hymns will be sung by adults, which include “I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day", “It Came Upon The Midnight Clear", “Away In A Manger”, “Silent Night”, "What Child Is This”, “OLittleTownof Bethlehem’!, Forthe final, the cast joins in the singing of “Hark The Herald Angels Sing". Following the pageant in the Sanctuary.a party will be held in the fellowship hall where “Here comes Santa Claus” will be sung, as all enjoy looking at the gaily lighted Christmas tree, filled with gifts for the young, youngeri and youngest. Refreshments will be served - wait - who is that coming down the hall? Ho! Ho! Ho! Etheleene Butler Christmas Program C.W.F. Installation The C.W.F. of the Vanceboro Christian Church held its regular meeting on Wednesday night, December 12 at 7:30. There were several items of business. The most important being the project, the new refrigerator - which the C.W.F. has bought and given to the Church. All the members are reminded to bring a “refreshment" to the Christmas party, this Sunday night, December 23. Nell Hill was in charge of the Installation - all members were asked to draw a picture of their hands; then to write down on the fingers and hands the things our hands have done, showing our hands can be used for service. She suggested we let them be willing hands. All joined in the singing of "Take My Life and Let it Be” - The new officers were asked to stand and each one accepted their new office pledging to use their hands in this new year for service. The new officers for 1985 are: President - Betty Rose Crawford: Vice-President - Jill Campbell; Secretary - Etheleene Butler; Treasurer - Ida Pearl Buck; Program and Worship - Clara Lou Ipock; Service - Patricia Bennett; Food - Doris White, Carolyn Russell, Hazel Huff, Nell Hill and Thalia Broadway; the publicity chairman will be appointed in January. After the Installation, the groupjoined in the C.W.F. Fellowship Circle for the Benediction and the meeting adjourned. The C.W.F. annual'Christmas party followed. Each lady had brought a gift for exchange. Refreshments were served from a beautiful table laden with Christmas goodies, which each lady had brought - cookies, cakes, nuts, candy, sandwiches, and punch. Mrs. Patricia Bennett was hostess. West Vanceboro Church of God will have their Christmas Program Friday night, December 21 at 7:30 p.m. Textile Workshop To Be Offered Robben McAdam, Crafts Director at Tryon Palace, wiM||^ teach a workshop for th^v Council and Gallery on Introduction to Hand Weaving. The course is scheduled to begin in January and will run six weeks, one night per week, 7-9 p.m., at the West New Bern Recreation Center on Pinetree. The first three weeks will concentrate on various techniques and methods of hand-weaving resulting in individual samplers. In the last three weeks, each person will create an original finished piece. Robben is a native of Essex Falls, New Jersey, where her father is marketing director of Pellon, Inc., and her mother is an artist. She is a graduate of East Carolina University with a BFA degree in textile design. Her specialty is weaving. In May, the Bank of the Arts will feature an exhibit of Robben’s work. Pamlico Technical College exhibited her wall hangings and photographs in September. If you are interested in the weaving workshop, please contact the Council office at 638-2577.
