By Ben Franklin Well, this is 1976; not only is it our Bicentennial, but an election year. After talking to a few •friends, I decided that not too many knew what the candi dates stand for or are accused of stand ing for. (As a note, if I leave any candi date out, I am truly sorry and, hopefully, he won't be too over joyed.) To start off. I'll begin with a recent peanut farmer, former Governor Jimmy Carter of Georgia. Mr.Carter thinks that foreign policy is nice and Jesus is the most important thing in his life. From Carterls neigh- Picks POLITICS boring state of Ala bama, there is George (Run - All- the-Time) Wallace. Wallace is running against "pointy-headed intel lectuals", workers, bosses, wives, and anybody else who hap pens to live in this country. President Ford is running on his record. Now, let us remember that stumbling, bum bling Jerry is a for mer center who played without a helmet and didn't do much run ning with the ball or calling the plays. Henry (Scoop) Jackson, from what everybody says, is trying to tell the Russians what to do and to bomb anybody that gets in his way; back to the Dark Ages. After realizing that he couldn't make any more lousy movies. Ronald Reagan, alias Cowboy Bob, decided to run for president on the misinformed tickey, according to Jerry Ford. Morris (Mo) Udall is to me an unknown, so he falls into one of two categories,(1) not saying anything, or (2) not really a candidate. The "others", bra- ket, are all kinds of people; not just the normal communist, Nazi, or idiot candi dates, but the cam paign even includes your very own Mrs. McCormack, a N. Y. housewife running on an anti - abortion platform. As more of this interesting election comes out, I will try to make it available, but I think my office is bugged from the last election year. 44 Laurel Leaves A creative writing competition open to all residents of 30' Western North Caroli na counties is being sponsored by the Ap palachian.
