A child is born unto the wife of a merchant in town. The physician getteth 10 jilunks. The editor writeth a stick and a lialf and telleth the multitude tliat the cliild tippetli the beam at nine pounds. Yea, he lieth even as a centurion. And tlie proud fatlier giveth him a cremo. Behold, the young one growetli uj) and graduateth. And the editor putteth in tlie pajier a swell piece. Yea, a peach of a notice. He telletli of tlie wisdom of the young woman and of her exceeding comeliness. Like unto the roses of Sliaron is slic, and lier gown is ])layed up to beat tlie liand. And tlie dressmaker getteth two score and four iron men. And the editor gets a note of tliank from the sweet girl graduate. And the daugliter goctli on a jour ney. And the editor throweth him self on the story of tlie farewell party. It runneth a column solid. And the fair one remembcretli him from afar with a picture postal card that costeth six for a jitney. Behold, she returneth, and tlie youth of the to3vn fall down to wor ship. She picketh one and lo she picketh a lemon. But the editor calleth him one of our promising young men and getteth away with it. And they send unto the editor a bid to tlie wedding, and hchold, the bids are fasliioned in another city. Flowery and long is the wedding notice the editor printeth. The min ister getteth his bit. The editor printeth a death notice, two columns of obituary, three lodge notices, a cubit of poetry and a card of tlianks. And iie forgettetli to read proof on the dead, and the darned thing comctli out “Gone To Her I.ast Roasting Place.” And all that are akin to the de ceased jumpeth on tile editor with exceeding great jumps. And they pulletli out their ads and canceleth their subs, even unto tlie third and fourtli generations.—The Rambler. Dr. Moore Speaks To Student Body On two Tliursdays recently. Queens girls liave had tlie jirivilege of liear- ing Dr. Oren Moore, prominent phy sician of Charlotte, speak on subjects of vital interest to every girl. On tlie elevcntli of February, Dr. Moore gave his first general talk, “The Modern Girl and Her Friendship With Young Men.’’ Dr. Moore stres sed the apparently lost quality of modern woman, femininity. This qual ity, he stated, is woman’s greatest weajion. Tliis world of ours is in control of man only in appearance; in reality, “it is a woman’s world.” From this first excellent talk, there developed a plan by wliicli Dr. Moore was to give a series of three lectures. The subjects chosen were “Marriage”, “A Girl's Adaptation To Her Work”, and “Vocational Guidance.” Of tliese three talks, only the first has been given. On tlie twenty-fifth of February, Dr. Moore offered a lecture filled with valuable advice and in struction on the difficult art of being married. “Too often,” lie said, “a girl takes, wliat should be, the most important step in her life without a full realization of its imjiortance.’’ A bit of advice wliich is rvortli re membering a lifetime was brouglit out by Dr. Moore. A ivife sliould not allow her husband to learn all of lier talents in a year’s time. Slie sliould keep his interest alive witli something new, something different to spring upon him from time to time.
