Field Day
Wilton Wins County Tournament
Wilton boys and girls overcame
hard-playing Creedmoor teams here
Saturday night, February 17, to win
the county basketball championship
honors.
Mary Ann Vaughan, sharp-shoot
ing Wilton player, was high scorer
for the girls, getting 15 of their 25
points. Shirley James got 14 points
for the losers. The final score for the
girls’ game was Wilton 25, Creed
moor 18.
Close Fight for Boys
In an overtime period, Wilton
wrested the title from the defending
Creedmoor quint to score a 42-41 vic
tory.
Johnny Brummitt was high scorer
for Wilton with 20 points while Bill
Adams led the Creedmore quint with
15 points.
County Superintendent D. N. Hix
presented trophies to the winners.
Each member of the winning team
also received a gold basketball.
Again, this year, the Student Coun
cil is planning a Field Day to be held
sometime in May. A committee com
posed of Ruth Hedgepeth, Gilbert
Ragland, Eloise Gill, Sarah Hall,
Frances Clayborne, Homer Hobgood,

been appointed to make plans for
the event. In previous years, com
petition games have been played and
a picnic style lunch has been enjoyed
by all. These will probably be the
plans for ’51.
The Student Council has asked for
the cooperation of every member of
the student body, so that the Field
