We Hear .. ♦ FROM THE FINISHING DEPARTMENT Georgia Hunt and her family spent the Christmas vacation in Florida. We are glad to have Gertrude Garner and Lois Grant back with us. Both have been out due to illness. Our sympathy to Mary Walden who had the misfortune of suffer ing considerable damage to her home due to fire. The box of sil ver presented to Mary by mem bers of the plant, however, was certainly a grand and timely gift. A warm and hearty welcome to Corrie Campen, Louise Taylor, Maxine Phillips, Juanita Stroud and Donald Fagg—all new mem bers of the Finishing Department. At the same time we are glad to welcome back Ella Trivette who has been out for quite sometime because of extended illness. FROM THE looping DEPARTMENT Pat Welborn attended the wed ding of her son, Darrell and Becky Chappel in Candor, N. C. They say Pat was all dressed up, but didn’t Avear her Christmas party hat. Elsie Fowler Avas very much the loser during Christmas. On her Avay to visit her mother in Elkin, she lost her suitcase containing all her gifts, and it still hasn’t been recovered. Was Mr. Goodman’s face red when he came to work Wednesday morning after discovering what he had traded to one of the loopers for one dozen eggs! While Pat Welborn’s son was doM'n the aisling it during the Christmas season, Carrie Fagg’s JI-M VALENTINE Jim Valentine is another one of our few employees Avho wears the twenty-five year button. Jim was born July 31st, I won’t say what year. He started with the company in 1920 as a boarder and has been boarding ever since, and on the same set of boards. Since he first came here in 1920 Jim has taken on neAv responsibilities, namely that of farming and cigar smoking. He noAv raises bumper crops and is known as the human smoke stack. During his 26 odd years Avith us, Jim has proved himself a loyal and dependable member of our organization. Ahvays ready to co-operate, he is one of the mainstays of our Boarding Room. daughter Avas married down at Denton. These two marriages give thte Looping Department a mighty high average in the space of a week- Ollie King is a new addition to our Looping Department and we arc mighty glad she is with us. They say Kate Smith isn’t talk ing much these days. FROM THE BOARDING DEPARTMENT Madeline Scott moved into her ncAV home on Roy Avenue a few weeks ago. Here’s hoping for her and her family many joyous years of happy living in their new home. We are glad to hear that William Miller is getting along nicely after undergoing an appendectomy Sat urday, January 11th, at the Boule vard Unit of the High Point Memo rial hospital. One of the finest meals we’ve ever tasted was the picnic dinner held December 20th, in the Board ing room. The girls really did themselves proud. We are glad to have Jack H. BroAvn and William C. Wall, ..Jr., two new members of the Boarding Department with us. from the KNITTING DEPARTMENT It is rumored that Blanche Stan ley can do a mean Rhumba. Did you know that one of our fixers got dressed and ready to go home one afternoon only to find it was only 2 o’clock? People are Avondering Avhere “DagAvood Marsh” gets all his energy. Ruby Luquer is wearing a mighty pretty ring these days. Congratulations Ruby, and don’t forget that if you need any ad vice Mr. Morehead is always avail able Anyone knowing where Clar ence Potts can get a house let him know. If he doesn’t find one soon his Avife says she is going to di vorce him. We are sorry to hear that W. C. Mangum’s wife has been sick. We Avish her a speedy recovery- FROM THE INSPECTING DEPARTMENT The Inspectors held their Christ mas party at the home of Mrs. Vivian Robbins. A wonderful time was had by all with Ida Gillen and Virginia Hendrix being the lucky prize winners. Mrs- Clara Black, one of our old and dependable members of the Inspecting Department, has left us to retire from work. Mrs. Black had been with the company for twenty years, and it is with gen uine regret that we see her go. Mrs. Vida Lowder and Ossie King entertained the nurses of the High Point Memorial Hospital at the home of the latter during the month of December.
