Greene - President We Welcome Our Students The Forsyth Technical Institute Board of Trustees, Administrators, Faculty and Staff welcome both the new and returning students to a campus filled with excitement as we see new facilities constructed and new programs planned and implemented. Forsyth Tech will have a new personality during 1984- 85 with the completion of Hauser Hall and FTI - West Campus (formerly Dalton Jr. High). I challenge you, as students, to assist us in making the year one of our most successful ones, in spite of the inconveniences brought about by progress. Your patience and un derstanding will make your year a pleasant and suc cessful one. The coordinator of student activities needs you Continued on Page2 Activity Fees And Student Government Association Don Baldwin All Forsyth Technical’ Institute (FTI) students are members of the Student Government Association (SGA). When a student enrolls in FTI for 12 or more credit hours, his-her activity fee is $5.00 per quarter, for 6 to 11 credit hours the fee is $4.00 per quarter, and for less than 6 credit hours, the fee is $1.00 per quarter. These fees are paid on the day of registration. All fees are used for the many student activities and benefits enjoyed by the student body. Each student receives a student identification card which is made and validated You Can Qualify For Financial Aid - If... Diane L. Sims Director, Student Financial Services If you see yourself resembling any of the following examples, you should apply for financial aid: (1) A single independent student (meaning you don’t live with or receive support from parents and didn’t in 1983) who received $7,000 or less in 1983, would be eligible. (2) A married student with one child with a combined income of $16,000 or less during 1983, could very possibly qualify. (3) A dependent student (currently lives with parents or did in 1983) in a (household of four, whose on the day of registration. This ID card is your passport to the many func tions and privileges around campus. You can use your card to check out books from the library, check out sports equipment for use in the new West Campus Gymnasium, and your card can be used to receive discounts from many local businesses and en tertainment centers. Your ID card is your ticket to all SGA functions. Your activity fee is also used to assist FTI’s student clubs and organizations. Presently, there are seven active clubs on our campus: The Architectural Club, Data Processing parents had a combined income of $25,000 or less for 1983 could possibly be eligible. Of course, in all the examples above, if incomes are higher but there are more people in the household, then there are possibilities of eligibility. If you fit in one of the above examples, then you would qualify for the Pell Grant. The federal Pell Grant is GIFT money meaning you DO NOT HAVE TO PAY IT BACK. The Pell grant ranges from $200 - $1,125 a year. Also, it is retroactive and you would be reimbursed for the fall quarter if you were enrolled at least % time. All students (except Special Credit) who are Management Association, Law Enforcement Administration Society, Student Practical Nurse Organization, Society of Engineering Technology Students, Society of Respiratory Therapy Students. The Handicapped Awareness Club was formed this summer as a support group to help with specific problems of the han dicapped. There are also plans to begin an Alumni Association in the near future; look for more in formation in The Reporter. Your activity fee also supports Forsyth Tech’s athletic activities.
