Majority Approve UNDF Colleges, Survey Sfsews NEW YORK—A pot! of leading Negro citizens in a mid-west city shows them t.o he overwhelmingly in favor of the United Negro Col lege Fund and its member insti tutions, The results of t’ne survey were announced by William J. Trent, Jr, College Fund director, Eighty per cent of those polled favored the Negro colleges, end ure-=d greater financial support of j UNCF campaigns, Mr. Trent said. The majority Indicated their approval because the colleges are needed in the South, not only for social and economic, reasons, but to help insure sur ceasful integration. Also, he eause of the mounting rush of applicants to alt educational institution*, the Negro colleges, as accredited schools with high academic standing, will be able to serve all qualified student*. I Among the individual opinions | elicited by the survey were the ; following: "Today many white colleges are willing t.o accept outstanding Ne gro professors. Therefore, we need our colleges and universities to Main Negro students as future fa culty member* for all the nation'* colleges ” “Most UNCF colleges have inte grated faculties.
