Biology Institute
Appalachian State Teachers
College 'will conduct an eight
week Summer Institute in Field
Biology here June 28 -August
17 for 90 high school teachers
at biology.
The Summer Institute, spon

Foundation, will be directed by

Sixty interning teachers will
reflater for the reading sessions
at the Charlotte Center on June
8-4, from 8:10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

will perhaps be awarded similar

Monument To Founders
Of Belk's Constructed

ment to the late William Henry
Betk and Dr. John H. Belk,
founders of the Belk Brothers
| Stores, will be unveiled at their
! birthplace here June 2.
The unveiling will be spon
sored by the Lancaster County
Historical Society.
The unveiling will be by N.
C. Sen. Irvin Belk of Charlotte,
and by Jdhn Belk Daughtridge
of Charleston, S. C., the oldest
great-grandaon of Dr. John H.
Belk.
The Belk stores began in 1888
in Monroe, N. C. Within five
years they had opened their
flrat branch store in Chester,
S. C., and begun their huge
chain of stores.
Detour In Effect

be detoured over 321-Bypass,
town streets and US 32 lousi

The detour is necessary due
to the installation of a sewer
line by the town of Blowing
Rock.

school-camp for white boys and
girls in grades 5 through 8 at
Broadstone Camp, Valle Crucis,
June 9 ? July 20.
Broadstone Camp, one of the
most unique school - camps in
the nation, mixes physical and
mental exercises for boys and
girls during the summer months
Eric DeGroat, assistant pro
fessor of physical education at
ASTC, will direct the camp.
He is considered one of the out
standing summer camp directors
in the southeast. He has served
as program director of Camp
Swannanoa and Camp Millstone;
camp director of Camp Schaub
and Camp Tsali; assistant di
rector of Camp Sequoyah, Inc.,
and director of camp craft at
Camp Soa Gull.
