Chip ins are so re gular that they are almost the expected thing and quite a few extra long putts are being holed. None of these however, create quite as much excite ment as when a player makes an eagle on a par four* hole. Harvey Ayers pull off the last of several that have been re ported, by holing out a nine iron shot on the first hole. An other boost for the "wrong siders" since Harvey is one of the growing number of left handers. Olenn Andrews turned in his very best score of a short golf ing career the other day, a fine 84. Glenn is better know for his booming tee shots rath er than his scoring but he found the groove on this day and came way below his aver age. All three of the top profes sionals from Greensboro play ed the local course during the past week. We had Aubrey Apple from the Green Valley Golf Club who Is also Presi dent of the Carolinas Section, PGA, also Tom Case of the Sedgefleld Country Club who ran into some of his members while on the couree and Char lie Farlow of the Starmount Country Club and the Carolinas Seniors professional champion. Bruce Sudderth, Bob Mo Kaughn, Estel Wagner and my self enjoyed a round of goli last week at the Blowing Rock Course even though we came out on the short end of the match. Bob made a great birdie from about twelve feet on the final bole to turn the trick. Bruce played some of his bet ter golf during the round for a score of 68 and with the help Bob gave him on several holes, they proved to be too tough for Estel and I. Estel had a fine 74 while Bob shot 70 and I played it one over. The course as usual was in fine condition, and people can say what they wiU about it being short but those par three's will test the ability of any player. There are four that are about as tough as they come and the seventh though some shorter, requires a very accurate shot or else! Dirksen and H?lleck douSt Ux cut this leasion.
