PAGE SIX Processing Much Needed On Farms Says A. C. Kimery Almost 100 Attend Ro tary Club's Farmers' Night Close to 4.00 farmers and Rotarians gathered in the Community Building at Crdßf Rottato Thursday night to ob serve the Edenton Rotary Club’s farmers* night when farmers from •every section of the county were in vited as special guests. The meet ing was ft delightful affair through out, with a sumptuous turkey dinner served by the ladies of the Chowan Woman’s Cfub and a program ar ranged which delighted all who were -•resent. The principal speaker for the oc casion was A. C. Kimrey, dairy spec ialist of the State Extension Service, who delivered what was generally con ceded by the group the best farm talk ever heard by those who attended. His theme was along defense lines •n the farm, particularly emphasiz ing the need for dairy products. Mr. Kimrey told of the need of pro cessing machines on the farm to ‘oast incomes, showing how raw ma terials increased in value with each succeeding process. His illustra 10ns were especially pertinent to the t-oint he was trying to convey. The orchestra hatr just completed an engagement at Fay’s Southern Grill in Macon, Georgia, where they were acclaimed very highly. Featured with the orchestra will be the beautiful voice of Miss Kay Howard, whose vocals have won paise from both young and old. The dance will begin at 10 o’clock Christmas night, and is expected to attract a large crowd from every section of the Albemarle. value and as it undergoes various processing operations its value is gradually increased until it is sold for high prices as splendid furniture. Cows and chickens, he said, feed on ordinary grass and as the result, their value increases more than 100 per cent. C. L. McCullers, president of the Rotary Club, presided at the meeting, with the Chowan Trio, composed of Mrs. Gordon Blow, Miss Louise Wil son and Miss May Belle Edwards, rendering special music. C. E. Kramer was in charge of a number of stunts which provoked plenty of merriment from the crowd. Service Club Enjoys Christmas Dinner Members of the Chowan Service Club, together with a number of •guests, enjoyed a Christmas dinner in connection with a meeting held at the Community House at Cross Roads Tuesday night. Singing of “Silent Night” opened the meeting which was followed by the invocation by the Rev. Frank Cale. A toast to the guests was given by Miss Frances Dail, the pres ident, which was responded to by Thomas Elliott, of Edenton. County Agent C. W. Overman pleased the group with a solo, singing the popular old song, “I Dream of Jeannie With the Litjht Brown Hair.” The principal address was made by the Rev. Frank Cale, who talked on “The Meaning of Christmas,” which was followed by a Christmas reading by Miss Beulah Perry. Mrs. Percy Smith gave a toast to the members of the Woman’s Club for their service, which was respond ed to by Mrs. E. L. Wyislow. The meeting closed with all singing “God Bless America.” BERTIE COTTON GINNING Latest census reports released for Bertie County by P. F. Tadlock, special agent for the Bureau of the Census, show that 7,667 bales of cotton were ginned in Bertie County from the 1941 crop prior to Decem ber 1, as compared with 6,505 bales at the same time last year from the 1940 crop.
