Continuous Rains Prevents Dustins County Agent Also Re ports 801 l Weevils Very Active Rainy weather for the past ten days has greatly handicapped cotton dust ing, County Agent C. W. Overman reports. On the other hand the boll weevil seems to have continued with renewed vigor and vitality. Field examinations last week and this week show the following: 1. Three fields properly dusted showed an average of 3% of the squares punctured. These fields have been dusted four times,..with the last application on or about July 4. 2. Two fields where three early ap plications were made, the last being about June 26, show an average of 25% punctured squares. 3. Three fields which had not been dusted up to July 13 show an average of 55% puuctured squares. The County Agent suggests that farmers continue dusting each week through August 12. This means four more applications including this week. Growers should use about 12 to 15 pounds of 20% Toxaphene per acre per dusting. Sulfur Dusting Peanuts If the weather has prevented pea nut growers from making the first application of sulfur dust to their peanuts the County Agent recom mends that they begin at once. Apply IS to 20 pounds of Copper Sulfur Dust or 25 pounds of straight sulfur per acre row. Come back again the last of July with your next applica tion increasing the amount of dust from 3 to 5 pounds. If your land is early, it is suggested that you make a third application the second week in August. If your land is late, stop with the second application.
