PAGE TEN Speeders In State j Face Court Action 3351 Are Convicted For Speeding During First Month Os Year Nearly 4,000 North Carolina mo torists faced court action for speeding last month, the Department of Motor Vehicles reports. In its first month ly summary of traffic violations for the new year the Department report ed 3,851 speeding convictions; 2,206 convictions for reckless driving and 1,538 for driving without an opera tor’s permit. For failing to stop for a stop sign or red light 644 motorists were con victed; 305 answered charges for driv ing with improper lights; 228 were caught and convicted for passing on hills and curves; and 112 were con victed for failing to give a hand sig nal. Failing to give right-of-way brought 104 convictions. Miscellaneous vio lations carried the month’s total to 10,211. Out of sthte drivers accounted for another 1,335 convictions, bringing the grand total to 11,566 persons found guilty of traffic violations on the streets and highways of the state during January.
