A Time Os Revival By TERRY JONES 11113 column should have been written two. weeks earlier be cause several Revivals are in ses ’tkmpt* have! finished eifready. Butshis is spring ari«L *?jnany churches are* having rj&VJvals. What: is a reveal’ It p t*.time of refreshing the ChristiaiMaind, a time to pull those that; have strayed away aad re fresh their minds of ness and love, But all a revival is to reach out ih the community and actually pave the way for the Spirit of God to convict those that have never made a profession of faith in the feord Jesus Christ By doing this a community ip revived. Os course, this should go on all year-round but a church revival puts special emphasis on this. Tlje purpose of this column is not to get across a message but to ask you to pray. Not, just to utter a few words concerning the revivals and forget it but to pray with all your heart and strength. Ask God to grant us a revival in our town, state, na i Health For A1 ] l—t— QUACK “See a doctor—but be sure he IS a doctor.” One of the best pieces of med ical advice anyone can get is, “See a doctor.’’ When you feel sick, don’t trust yourself to di agnose the trouble. A doctor can do it'much better. That is what he has been trained to do. But there is a second piece of advice that should always go with the rule: “But be sure he IS a doctor.” Every year, the American pub lic spends millions of dollars on medical quacks bogus doctors with bogus methods. They use seemingly wonderful, unheard of machines and mysterious, secret formulas. At best, these quack remedies are simply harmless; at wqrst, they can be extremeiy dangerous. A quack promises cures, even for incurable diseases. He is generally anti-doctor and anti medical associations. He is al so opposed to proven methods of treatment. He probably adver tises (something a bona fide doc tor would never do), and he of ten talks freely—brags, in sact — about the cures he has effected. But the worst thing of all about a quack is the time he wastes, time when the patient could be undergoing valid treat ment from .a genuine doctor. Time that, in some cases, might mean the difference between life and death. So, if you aren't feeling well, SEAGRAM’S V.O. Surely you know someone who has not truly given Jesus all of their life, maybe a friend of yours, a neighbor, or even a member of your family or your self. James tells us that the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man can do much to help another person. God Him self tells us, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked way; then will I hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. (II Chroni cles 7:14). Take God at His word and pray not just once but every time you feel the need. If we will all join to gether and talk to God about ourselves and others then these revivals can be. fire from Heaven. - don’t dose yourself. See a doc tor —and be sure he IS a doctor. Quacks are tor ducks. Record Acreage For Soybeans Is Expected i March 1,1962 prospective acreage of soybeans grown .done for all purposes is indicated at a record of 796,000 acres, accord ing to the North Carolina Crop Reporting Service. On the basis of the March intentions, the cur rent crop acreage is expected to be 10 percent above the rec ord plantings in 1961 and 68 per cent above the 1951-60 .average. With the exception of 1959, some increase in acreage has oc curred each year since 1953. ’62 Cotton Acreage Same As Last Year Based on reports from growers as of March 1 and other infor mation, North Carolina farmers intend to plant 420,000 acres of cotton in 1962, according to the North Carolina Crop Reporting Service. This is the same as the planted acreage in 1961. The 1962 allotment for North Carolina is about 1 percent smaller than 1961. Growers with farms having allotments who do not intend to plant cot ton in 1962 have been asked to release, their acreage and this acreage will be reapportioned to farmers desiring additional acre age. Hall, Wil | Ham (Buster) uiddick, James Riddick, Elizabeth Riddick, Defendants. I To William (Buster) Riddick, 1 James Riddick and Elizabeth Riddick: I Take notice that I A pleading seeking relief i IN MEMORIAM Skies were tiaruened „n that da>, a u,,ud Friday many years ago When the wretched Unman Legion led Him J l'p, beyond the gates, to Calvary. Hearts were saddened on that day, Loud Friday just a year ago When the wretched saw in raging bit him, I Bit! With sting of death, and van quished him. "Just a year ago, our Lord Deemed it appropriate in time To walk witn our Beloved Father. Devoted Husband to my Mother. Down tiiiuugn tne valley ol the Shadow Or Death, and up into Life Ever lasting With Him For one w’ho so, faithfully and de votedly Walked in His footsteps During all the days <n his life. It was fitting that the Lord should . \ come And receive him unto Himself. He walked the pathways of Life In a state of constant preparedness To meet the Saviour; And our hearts are lightened in the knowledge that he was ready. | But we were not prepared For his departure from us. [And though we know that his Spirit Was gladdened by his entrance Into the presence of God, We know as well That his heart was saddened At the thought of leaving us behind. His body lies resting now In the land he loved so well: His Spirit is with God. And betimes we feel his presence Smiling on us. helping us still Through Life’s problems, yaerntng, Longing to make his ncarneas known. I We knew him not alone As Husband and Father, But ns loyal, trusting Friend. And we miss him in a thousand ways. As have many of those who knew him. | He will be missed a great deni more Before we meet him again on High, Missed by us, his Family. By those to whom he had become A fixture in the Church for which He would gladly have given his life And many times again— Missed bv those who on beds of af fliction Knew him as regular and cheerful v isltor. Missed by those he served So carefully at his work— A work he loved but little less Than the service of the Lord. In his memory. I'm sure. He would ask nothing more Thnn thnt we repeat the message He tried so diligently To show forth with his life. The message that In Death There is Life, that Christ was sent. The Son of God. to walk where mor tals walk. To know life as mortals know it. To suffer and die for m;tn. To provide a plan of Eternal Salvation For all who will believe In His Name. Like the Loving Saviour, He was wounded on Loud Friday; But Death was not the end for either. He would have all know, ns wuuld Christ, 'That the joys anil blessedness Os Everlasting Life , Are available to all i Who will believe on Him and follow I Him. , if the message here Is clear i That we dearly loved this man— ! And do still—then These feeble efforts have well served ' Their intended purpose. ' If they have shown for all to see - That there is Eternal Hope tor all . mankind In none other than Christ. Then will they be found Acceptable to Him As fitting tribute. • , i And for those who mourn with us Vet. And lament our so great loss. We say, “Rejoice!” For we know that wc shall see him again On Th*t Day when Christ once more • shall come ITo this temporal sphere. And receive unto Himself all those Who have accepted His Loving Sac rifice. And have believed with all their hearts On His Eternal. Holy Name. GURNIE C. HOBBS. JR..
