H. ; *T. \ SECTION TWO When you iive with a story for several weeks in the pro cess of writing, much of it is clear to the writer that may be a little hazy to the rea'der. I have had several of my readers complain that, in the solution of The Crime In The Cupola, they did not quite follow how Dr. Wescott knew Miss Chhlmers was the murderer. Now, that in my mind was quite clear, but in the writing I left out much that I had in my notes to con serve space, and left the solu tion to the information ih this paragraph of the story. I quote from the story: ‘'On my first night (says Dr. Wescott) here in Edenville, I had occasion to Observe most of you now pres ent. I am a very gobd reader of personality and character and now, in the revealing light of what I then. observed, I am pre pared to give you the killer of Mark Sylvester and the person who now has the stolen money." That paragraph was supposed to convey to the reader, after Miss Chalmers confessed, that Dr. Wescott had, at Aunt Martha's mm Prescription Service ■ Al ■r- Tiifg I ,|||x REGISTERED pharmacists ■ k_ Mitchener's Pharmacy 301 S. Later, when Mark Sylvester’s body was discovered in the cupola, Dr. Wescott, act i ing on a hunch that this tri-! angular situation had a bearing on the case, had the police search Miss Chalmers’ apartment. There they found the murder weapon and the money. All of this was in my notes and I rea lize now, this information should have been introduced in the so lution. I can only offer my [apologies for careless writing, and hope I have made the solu ; tion clear and not further 1 muddied up the waters. The sep aration of Church and State is basically sound, but you can t separate the United States and God. On that rock this nation was founded and has grown great and strong. And if we begin now to chip away at that rock, bit by bit, we will have nothing left but sand. And you can’t build a nation on sand any more than you can build a house t If history has taught us' anything, it has told us that the j downfall of nations begins with the loosening of moral controls, i Rome is the classic example of '.hat. Tracts or areas will not be plow ed or blocked in less than 160 acre blocks. Plowing will be available for bonafide forest fire control pur poses. Requests for plowing for drainage, woods, roads, hunting access trails, property lines, etc., will be rejected unless such pur poses can actually be combined with an actual forest fire control need. The purpose of the fire line plowing program is to provide landowners with better forest fire protection for their valuable woodlands. Pine plantations will be given special consideration. Plowing will be restricted to hose months of the year when forest fire conditions are favor able. The equipment will be withdrawn for fire control work during fire seasons.
