THE CHOWAN HERALD, EDENTON, NORTH CAROLINA, THURSDAY, JULY 2, 1970. Return Their Winter Hospitality With Swim Party in Backyard If you have a swimming pool, this summer you can return with interest all the hospitality you enjoyed dur ing the winter. A crowded cocktail party is uncomfort able and old hat, but a big party in the great outdoors, with the focus on fine food and fun in the pool is some thing else. If your friends like to dress up, make it a costume party. How about a deep sea theme, with guests coming as some form of marine life? If they’re imaginative, you’ll probably see a wild assort ment of swordfish, angelfish, catfish, blueflsh, starfish and goldfish. And perhaps a few mermaids, Neptunes and frogmen. Better warn them that costumes should be either waterproof or easy to ex change for a swim suit. For Party Prop* For party props, beg, buy or borrow Oriental fish kites, fish-shaped pool toys, sea shells anything that smacks of life under the sea. Make your menu predomi nantly seafood dishes to car ry out the party theme. Pre pare some things in advance, and cook others on the patio for on-the-spot char-broiled flavor. The easiest and cleanest cookouts are done on gas grills, which may be con nected to a natural gas line, or fueled by tanks of LP gas. Some are permanently in stalled; others can be moved around and quick-connected to the gas supply. For the Menu For the menu, you might serve Oriental shrimp appe tizers shrimp marinated in soy sauce, honey, sherry and crushed garlic. Broil them quickly on the gas grill and have a generous supply of Japanese wood skewers or big toothpicks and cocktail napkins on hand for serving them. Make Camp Life Safe and Cozy, Warm and Dry with Gas Heater To keep warm, dry and safe when you go camping, make sure the gas heater in your camper or trailer •is vented directly through the roof, never through the side or walls; • bears the American Oas Association’s Certifi cation Seal; • has an automatic pos itive shut-off, not just a hand valve shut-off; • gets an ample supply of fresh air through holes In the flooring underneath it, or through louvers or ventilators. Ask your local health de partment, gas utility or LP gas dealer where to have the camper or trailer checked to see that proper combustion is provided without using up the oxygen in the trailer.
