Page 4-C Proposed Financial Institution Welcoming Capital Investors ELIZABETH CITY-Tbe proposed Northeastern Savings and Loan Association of Elisabeth Qty is now soiling pre incorporation subscriptions of stock. O.C. Abbott, spokesman for the new organization, said that this did not mean the new savings and loan was reedy to open. “Stock savings and loans depend upon the subscription of stock to interested people in the area to capitalize the institution. Our offering will consist of 100,000 shares of common stock at a sub scription price of sll per share. One dollar of the sll will be used for organizational expenses through the time of approval with the savings and loan authorities. This is a common practice of the new stock savings and loans. Before our application can be approved, we must go through an extensive process, and part of that involves the subscription of stock. Only the $1 portion will be collected with the subscription, and the remaining $lO will be paid upon approval of toe state.” Under the laws of toe state, only residents of North Carolina can pur chase stock in the new thrift institution. The in corporators have agreed to sell minimum blocks of 25 shares and a purchaser can obtain as many as 2,500 shares. The limit of 2,500 shares per family is being imposed so that many people will have an op portunity to invest in the savings and loan. “We want this new savings and loan to serve all .. ~,w . ;• Complete jfl Burial Insurance J And Monument K Service Williford-Barham Funeral Home West Albemarle St. Edenton, N. FOr that reason, the original in corporators and directors have further agreed that they will not subscribe to more that 45 per cent-of the total shares offered first, unless the public did not purchase toe remaining 5$ per cent. Stock savings and loans are owned by the holders of capital stock, and not by depositors, so we want to have as many owners involved as are in terested,” Abbott stated. Ads are being run in all of the local newspapers giving toll details of the initial offerings, and advising persons who are interested to contact Abbott, trustee for the proposed savings and loan. “We hope that toe public will respond positively in the next few weeks to our offer, and that all 100,000 shares of stock wifi be subscribed,” Abbott said. “Anyone having questions can direct them to me or any of the original incorporators.” The 10 initial in corporators indude: J. Am#nc«fl BiM Socwf, WALKING IN LOVE International Sunday School Lesson Scripture: Romans 14:1 to 15:6,1 Corinthians 8 By Mrs. Jesse Waller This walk, of which Paul speaks, becomes a journey, not just a stroll. Have you ever sat, or stood, on a street corner waiting for a bus, and noticed that each person passing has a charac teristic walk? Some walk with confidence, some with a dif ficult trudge. Sometimes a walk can reveal a person’s ap proach to life. It can relate to a person’s way of living and acting. Walk could also refer to conduct and behavior. We like to think that the Christian’s walk, is a special kind of guided walk. If our walk is guided by love, we will be going to the places where Christ directs, and engaged in the work of His kingdom. At all times, we will be surrounded by a cloud of witnesses, so we must be mindful of our influence on others. When there is a stone in the pathway, we should remove it, for the feet of those who follow us. It seems to me that there are more people today who are willing to play stumbling blocks, than are willing to remove them. I'm thinking of children and young people, and some adults. There are children in our school systems who had rather aggravate {heir teachers than to thank them for their patience. I know young people who litter, and have no respect for property. Think of the example they are setting for those who follow. I know some adults who openly live with a person of the op posite sex, declaring, if the young people do it, why can’t we? Christian influence calls for maturity, and faith. 4 Once a woman went to her minister for advice on some doubtful action. Hie .minister said, “if you can truly say ‘l’m doing this to the glory of God,’ don’t be afraid to continue.” In all things we are testing our lives by the Divine Master. If he has control of our lives, we can act on faith, and our actions are between God and ourselves. The goal of our lives should be to live to strengthen others. Some groups seem to major on the minor. One group will insist on a no meat diet. Others must have fish on Friday, but have no explanation as to why. Others ban music in their churches. Some religious groups require their women to wear no makeup, but their hair doe are very elaborate. What relationship does all of this have an our walk with Christ? It seems to me that his standards, and his alone are the only ones about which we should be concerned. Jesus came to fulfill the law, but he added some requirements “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all they heart, and thy neighbor as thyself.” Closing thoughts: Jesus said, “Continue ye in my love.” (Based on copyrighted Outlines produced by the Committee on the Uniform Series and used by permission.)
