On that day Edauton will be judged for the Governor’s Award of ir»« n The one thing we need to urge ALL citizens, businesses and local government is the absolute necessity of sprucing up, cleaning up and fixing up your area so the judtfng team will be as impressed with Edenton’s beauty as we are. If there is one community in North Carolina that deserves the Governor’s Award of Excellence, it is our community. Let us all make sure that the justifiable pride we have in Edenton and Chowan County is one display August 16 through your efforts in beautifying our community. Creighton, President Edenton-Chowan Chamber Os Commerce Reunion Is Held The Chowan High School Class of 1944 held a reunion on July 21 at Jimmy’s Restaurant in Sunbury. Nineteen of the classmates and their guests, including one of the class mascots, Wayne Bunch, attended. It seems the majority of the class had deep roots and settled in Chowan County, .Edenton, and the surrounding communities. The class was welcomed by the class president, Mrs. Ed Ward, the former Beatrice Byrum, preceding a short business meeting. A dinner was enjoyed by all while renewing old acquaintances and reviewing class history. Nineteen of the graduating class of twenty four were present. Among them were: Hattie Ruth Bass Owens, Gerald Blanchard, B. T. Boyd, Jr., Elizabeth Bunch Forehand, Beatrice Byrum Ward, Ester Mae Byrum Byrum, Paul Byrum, Janice Byrum Hobbs, Eula Copeland Harrell, Ruth Evans Nixon, John Eason, Robert Hen drix, Haywood Jordan, Herman Layden, Jr., J. T. Layton, Jr., Celia Rae Nixon Copeland, Evelyn White, Myra White Jordan, and Fred White, Jjr. Everyone had a wonderful time and according to the class president, a decision was made for the class to neet again in three years. Hopefully all class members will be in attendance in ’B2. Two Attend Water School Rodney Dean and Graham Farless of Edenton attended the 40th Annual Water Works Operator’s School being held last week at N. C. State University at Raleigh, conducted by the Department of Civil Engineering, School of Engineering and the Division of Continuing Education, with the assistance and sponsorship of the North Carolina Section of the American Water Works Association, N. C. League of Municipalities and die N. C. Department of Human Resources State Board of Health. The purpose of file school is to improve the general level of water plant operation. The latest developments and sound techniques are taught in classes organised by file North Carolina Water Works Operator’s Association to meet the needs of operators at all Operators who attend fids school and pass the examination meet the requirements of the cer tification law passed by the tm General Assembly. .
