Originally released by World Wide Pictures in commercial theatres, the film is now one hour in length in preparation for its eventual presentation as a television special. “No Longer Alone” traces the life of an English ac tress, Joan Winmill Brown. Though she skyrocketed to fame on the British stage, her life was marked by a frantic grasp for personal fulfillment and love. Tor mented by a past she was unable to forget, she suc cumbed to a series of ner vous breakdowns; and, at one point, attempted to take her own life. In her ultimate moment of despair, Joan was invited by a “chance” phone call to attend a Billy Graham crusade. It was here that she first discovered her worth as an individual and Justice Experienced A 19-year-old South Carolina resident ex perienced speedy justice in Chowan County this week. He was arrested on multiple charges at 9:30 P.M. July 9 and had his day in court July 10. David M. Rawlings of Summersville, S.C., was arrested by Capt. C.H. Williams and Cpl. C.C. Alexander of Edenton Police Department on North Broad Street. He was charged with speeding, reckless driving, drunk driving and two stop sign violations. Rawlings pleaded guilty before Judge Grafton G. Beaman. The judge gave him 60 days, suspended upon payment of S2OO fine and costs. Asst. Dist. Atty. Michael Johnson prosecuted the docket in Chowan County District Court with the following other action taken: Willie Capehart, wor began her long struggle & piece her shattered life bacx together. Those who have followed Billy Graham’s ministry will be interested to know that Dr. Graham appears in die film in some of the footage of his 1954 London Crusade, and also in the introduction and conclusion to the film, photographed recently for this special version. According to William F. Brown, President of World Wide Pictures, “No Longer Alone” was presented with the “Award of Excellence” from the Film Advisory Board of Hollywood, as well as the “Angel” award from Religion id Media in America, as the outstanding religion film of the year. It also received the “Silver Halo Award” from the Southern California Motion Picture Council. “No Longer Alone” was filmed in color on location in thless check, 10 days, suspended upon payment of $lO fine and costs and make restitution. Herman Edward Parrish, Jr., drunk driving, 60 days, suspended upon payment of $125 fine and costs, and placed on probation for two years. Robert Taylor, Jr., worthless check, 10 days, suspended upon payment of S2O fine and costs and make restitution. Notice of appeal entered. Melvin Lee Williams, traffic light violation, not guilty. Larry Windell Rankins, larceny, 15 days, sis pended upon payment of $25 fine and costs and placed on probation for 12 months. Donald Lee Barclift, no operator’s license, $25 fine and costs. Jimmy Reeks, two counts of worthless checks, 10 days, suspended upon payment of costs and make restitution. Levy Hayes, larceny, 12 months, suspended upon payment of S4OO fine and costs and placed on probation for two years. The title song was performed by the popular recording artist, B. J. Thomas. Mr. Harris, 48, Taken In Death Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon for Lary Edison Harris, Sr., 48, 413 East Church Street. The services were held in Williford-Barham Funeral Chapel with Rev. E.C. Alexander officiating. Full military honors were conducted. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force, after 22 years of service. Mr. Harris, an employee of Edenton Cotton Mill, died suddenly Saturday. A native of Chowan County, he was born December 31, 1931, son of the late William T. and Ella Belch Harris. He was married to Mrs. Cora Rae Crummey Harris, who survives. Also surviving is a son, Lary E. Harris, Jr., of Edenton; two daughters: Mrs. Wanda H. Lewis of Windsor; and Miss Christina D. Harris of Edenton; three brothers: George, Thomas and Wilbert Harris, all of Edenton; three sisters: Mrs. Sadie Alexander and Mrs. Nan Perry, both of Edenton; and Mrs. Hazel Hunter of Mooresboro; and two i grandchildren. Mr. Harris was a member of First Christian Church. State University associate professor and agricultural information specialist, was presented the Agricultural Communicators in Education (ACE) Professional Award at the organization’s annual meeting at the University of California at Berkeley. Cited as the highest award presented by ACE, it is given to a member “whose career expemplifies coim munications professional ism,’’ accord ing to the tribute given by ACE president and Raleigh native Dr. Lloyd R. Bostian now of the University of Wisconsin. Byrd, a native of Faison with two degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has been on the Department of Agricultural Information staff at NCSU since 1958. Prior to that he was on the staff of The News and Ob server in Raleigh and earlier served in the U.S. Air Force. His writing has received awards from ACE and from the N.C. Press Association. In June of this year he received an Award of Merit from the Society for Technical Communicators. He is the author of a book on the history of the Town of Cary. Byrd has served as acting head of his NCSU depart ment and currently is in charge of the Press, Radio and TV Section. He has been active in the ACE professional organization throughout his career, k serving as a director and as £ host state coordinator for \ the 1978 national ACE ( meeting in Asheville. Employment Security Commission recovered $149,714 in unemployment insurance overpayments in June, according to figures released by the com mission’s anti-fraud unit. Os the overpayments recovered, $32,484 was obtained through refunds from overpayments receipients. The remaining $117,230 was obtained by witholding payments to eligible unemployment insurance claimants.
