] Society N? Mwife { Miss Sarah Jean Lunsford Weds Jerry Bumgarner In Henderson Mia* Sarah Jean Lunsford, daughter of Mr. and Mr*. George W Lunsford of Andrews, and Jerry Lynn Bumgarner son of Mr. and Mrs- C. M. Bumgarner of Kannap oiis, N- C-. were married last Thursday in the chapel of First Baptist Church in Henderson. The Rev. J. David Fite of Wake Forest, a classmate of the bride, officiated The chapel was decorated with magnolia, pine and other greens. Standard wrought iron candelabra filled with burning cathedral cand les were placed at intervals amon? the greens. A short program of pre-nuptial music was rendered by Mrs. J. David Fite, also classmate of the bride. During the ceremony she softly played "At Dawning". The ; traditional wedding marches were| used for the processional and re cessional of the wedding party. The bride entered the chapel with Dr. William W. Leathers, Jr.. pastor of the First Baptist Church. She wore a waltz-length gown of white pead de soie and Chantilly lace, designed along princess lines. The empire bodice of lace termi nated in the back with a soft bow of peau de soie which fell grace fully to the hemline. Her only a domment was a single string of pearls, gift of the groom. Her shoulder length veil of illus ion was attached to e small head dress of pearls Her bouquet was of gardenia and snowdrift tied with loops of bridal satin ribbon cover ing a white Bible, a gift of the Woman's Missionary Union of the Mrs. E- F. Lininston of Laurin tmrg, sister of the bride, wore a street length dress of pale blue sOk and small white hat Her cor sage was a purple orchid. Mrs- Bumgarner is a graduate of Mercer University, Macon, Ga. Ga. She taught mathematics in Griffin High School, Griffin. Ga., and Needham High School in Ral eigh. At present, she is Minister of Education at the First Baptist Church in Henderson. Mr. Bumgarner is a graduate of Kannapolis High School. He has been associated with the Ball Bill Lovingood Receives Honors At Wake Forest Bill Lovingood son of Mr. and Mrs- Wade H- Lovingood of Rt. 3, Murphy, has been selected to the Wake Forest College chapter of Who's Who Among American Col lege and Universities He is one of 26 elected to the chapter by a faculty administration committee. They were selected on the basis of "scholarship, coopera tion and leadership in academic and extracurricular activities, cit- i lzenship and service to the school and promise of future usefulness to society." A physical education major, Lovingood was a star pitcher on the baseball team last season and has an outstanding scholastic rec ord. He is a former president of the Aquatics Club and a member of the Monogram Club and the honorary physical education fra ternity. Steamship Company working out of Savannah. Her cor sage was the gardenia lifted from the bridal bouquet. The couple will reside at 9X2 Bane Ave- in Henderson. Cherokee County Students Enrolled In Berea Among the more than 1500 stu dents enrolled in the College De partment and the Foundation High School of Berea College are two students from Cherokee County Ben Lee Pipes, son of Mrs- Kate Pipes of Marble is enrolled in the College Department and Noah James, son of Mrs. Ella James is a student of the Foundation de partment. Beautification Under Way At Hospital Grounds ANDREWS? Twenty-four mem orial contributions have been made for the beautification of the Dis trict Memorial Hospital grounds Landscaping is under the super vision of Howell Stroup of the Cherryville, N. C., Nurseries. Hie planting of appropriate ever greens, shrubs, flowering and shade trees is being made possi ble by private contributions to the Landscaping and Memorial Fund. When they ar rived there they were told that the show was postponed because a girl from Argentina was lost on the mountain and they were all going out to hunt for her. She was found later on. Harry M. Seamon attended the formal opening in celebration of the completion of the remodeled ballroom and dining room at the Patton Hotel in Chattanooga last Friday. Mr. and Mrs- Seamon have taken another ten year lease on the Regal Hotel. M*. and Mrs. Frank Ellis left Sunday for a two weeks vacation in Florida. Dr. Howard Hanson ft> Be Speaker At Folk School Dr. Howard Hanson, professor at young Harris College, daughter of the Rector of the Episcopal Church of Murphy, will be the speaker at the Fireside Chat at the John C Campbell Polk School at 4:30 Sun day afternoon. Miss Hanson earned the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Com parative Literature at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. She will speak on the Origin of the Holy Grail Legend The Folk School Fireside Chats, on the third Sunday afternoon of sach month, deal educationally with cultural ideas related to the development of national and world civilizations, with special concern about human relations. All educa tional procedures at the Folk School are informal, simple, natur al and delightful.
