Area Deaths, Funerals NORMAN N. BARTON Norman Nathan Barton, 60, ol Murphy Rt. J. died at '4 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, at his home after a long illness. He was a native of Cherokee County, a son of Mrs. Myra Queen Barton and the late Young Edward Barton, and a member of Mt Zion Baptist Church. Surviving in addition to' the mother are the widow, Mrs. Tiny Roberts Barton; two daughters, Mrs. Pearl Crain of Murphy, and Mrs. Dorothy Stalcup of Gat linburg, Tenn.: three sons, How ard of Murphy, William B. of Atlanta, and Andrew E. of Ruth erfordton; 11 grandchildren: four brothers, Whitt of Murphy. Vaughn of Fontana, Dillard of Chattanooga, and Frank of Au gusta, S. C.; and a sister. Mrs. Lula Newton of Marble. Services were held Friday a! II a.m. in Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church near Murphy. The Rev. Robert Barker and the Rev. C. A. Smith officiated, and burial was in the church :emetery. MARTHA FAIN Mrs. Martha Fain. 78, of Murphy died Wednesday She was a native and life-Jon? resident of Cherokee County. .1 daughter of the late Perry and Lethia Walker Shelton. Mrs. Fain and her husband were cattle raisers. - Surviving are two sisters, Mrs Pearl Browning of Murphy. an<Ti Mrs. Betty Fain of Gastonia : and a brother, Henry Shelton of Marietta. Ga. GENTRY Martin Luther Gentry. 83. of Murphy, died Monday afternoon. July 11. in a hospital following a lingering illness. Mr. Gentry was a native of Cherokee County, a son of the late Christopher and Mary Emily Wilson Gentry. His wife, Mrs. Mary Myrtle Parker Gentry, died in 1938. Surviving are ooe daughter. Mrs. Ray Carver of Robbinsville one son, H. Maurice Gentry of Cumberland, Ohio; one brother, Ed Gentry of Murphy Rt J: five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. He was a native of Tennessee but had lived in Cherokee County more than IS years. He was a merchant. Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in Shady Grove Baptist Church, of which he was a mem ber. The Rev. John Gibswi. the Rev. Ed Elrod, the Rev. Jimmy Kis selburg, and the Rev. Thomas Truett officiated, and burial was in the church cemetery. Surviving are .the widow. Mrs. Nellie Anderson Malone: a daugh ter, Mrs. Nina- Powell of Miami: a son. Luther H. of Philadelphia: a brother, C. W. Malone of Chai tangooga; and three sisters, Mrs. Mamiie McConkey and Mrs. Katie Cameron of Athens. Tenn.i and Mrs. Myrtle Tbomason of Knaxville. ? Townson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. CHRISTOPHER DEBTY Christopher Eugene Debty, one year-old son of C. B. and Nan Dalbeck Debty, of Marble, died in a Murphy hospital at 1:30 a m Sunday after a brief Illness. Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in Vengeance Creek Bap tist Church. The Rev. Jim Truett; officiated and burial was in! Derreberry cemetery. In addition to the parents, sur viving are the maternal grand parents. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Dalbeck of Bridgewater. Maine; and the paternal grandmother. Mrs. Cansady Debty of Marblfe. Ivie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. MRS. ANNIE CODY ROBBINSVILLE - Mrs. Annie Cody. 82, of Robbinsville Rt. 2, died at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 16, in her home following a heart attack. She was a daughter oft he late Sam and Cynthia Jenkins Cable of Graham County. She had lived most of her Bfe in Clay and Macon counties, and had been a member of the Baptist Church since she was 12 years old. < Surviving are her husband. Gen eral Cody; three daughters, Mrs. Steve Duvail of Franklin, Mrs. Bayse Ledford of North Wilkes boro, and Mrs. Irene Costner of Gastonia; five sons. Ralph of Hickry, Clyde and Harvey of Graham county, Monroe of Carey and Melvin of Mount Airy: 36 grandchildren; 17 great-grand children; a sister, Mrs. Marie Lee of Oregon; three brothers. Home Cable of Waleska, Harvy Cable of Stillwater, Maine and L?vi Cable of Colorado. CURTIS HAYESVILLE - John W. Cur tis- 57, of Hayesville, Rt. 2. died at 10 a.m. Saturday. July 9, fol lowing a heart attack. He was born in Clay County, son of the late Frank and Lottie Turner Curtis. His wife. Mrs. Charlotte Thomas Curtis, died in 1952 He had been employed for many years with the Lay manu facturing Co. of Hayesville. He was a "member of New Hope Baptist Church, and had beer superintendent of the Sunday School. Surviving are a daughter, Miss Daire Curtis of the home; two sons. W. H. of Jackson, S. C.- and Harold of Chicago: two grand children: four sisters, Mrs. Eva Scroggs, Mrs. Dora Curtis, Thel ma Raxter all of Hayesville: and four brothers. Fred, Tillman, Charlie and Olen Curtis all of Hayesville. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in New Hope Baptist Church. The Rev. Carl Cunningham and The Rev. GEORGE OSCAR REID George Oscar Reid, 64, died at 5:30 a.m. Thursday, July 7 at his home. Murphy Route 4. He was a native of Cherokee County, a son of the late Jesse and Martha Hampton Reid, was a member of Ducktown Metho dist Church and was a veteran of World War I. Surviving are the widow. Mrs Edith Kilpatrick Reid; a son. Clyde of Murphy Route 4: four daughters. Mrs. Dorothy Rogers of Turtletown, Tenn., and Mrs. Geneva Blackwell, Mrs. Virginia Hughes and Mrs. Vivian Hughes of Ducktown; 13 grandchildren: two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Sam Rei dof Turtletown. Tenn. Services were held Friday at 2 p.m. in Fields of the Wood Church of God of Prophecy. The Rev Mr. Strickland and the Rev. Mr. McDeal officiated, and burial was in Liberty Ceme tery.
