The Givens have a third ton. Bad. who is also married and attending school at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Fla. They have no I children yet and will not be here for Thanksgiving. But the Chancellor and his wife wRl see them on a trip to Florida during Christmas. Some of the children arriv ed here early, before PSlTs, Thanksgiving Convocation IfTuesday. A total of 2,349 calls were made with 47 percent of thane reached making pledg es. A total of 28 people worked with the Phon-A-Thon this year. ABACS GIBSON HAS NEW BOOK OF POETRY PUBLISHED Mrs. Grace Glbeea. assistant professor of English at PSU, has a second book of poetry pubUabed. His entitled by M. Andrews Press. the renowed writer, A.l! Amm says: "The Ann, Grace's poems is a reconcilia tion of the sharp motion* of deshe and iosa, cf having and letting go, of imaginative need and earned consolation. The voice seems to say that it will bear what comes. These impressions of 'dwelling through' are what we dream that wisdom and experience can give us. Grace Gibson's poems realize the dream." Mrs. Gibson gave a reading of her poetry at a writer's forum last Thursday at St. Andrews Presbyterian Coll ege. Her first book was entitled: "Home In lime." GEORGIA PROFESSOR SPEAKS DEC. 2-3 ATPSU Dr. Plank If amis an, pro fessor of philosophy at the University of Georgia, will speak at part td PSU's Visit ing Scholars Lectures next Thursday and Friday, Dec. 2-3. His talks on Dec 2 will be: at 11 a.m. in Educational Center 223?"Why Not Say God Exists" and from 12:15-2 p.m. in the Chancellor's Din ing Room~"Education, Voca tional ism and The Humani ties. " At the latter, coffee, tea and cookies will be provided by die Religion Department. , On Dec. 3, Dr. Harrison will speak twice in Educational Center 223. His first talk will be at 9 a.m. on the topic, "Philosophy, Theology, and1 Religious Story Telling." His second at 10 a.m. will be on "Minds, Computers and Ro bots." " a PSU student play to be prrsenifd TTmrs JTIdav end Saturday (Dm. 2-4) rffli PSU Performing Arts Center, wffl be interviewed by Chan cellor Pari Ghma on his program, "Prom the Chan cellor's Office," at 10:45 a.m. Sunday over WAGR in Lum berton. The three students are Fancy Adler, Fayette ville; Chuck Finisw, Lumber ton; and Dee Grainger, Rock ingham. This play is a court room drama, which is based on a turn-of-the-century trial of a priest who is accused of murdering a nun in his charge. The play will be presented at 8 p.m. nightly on Dm. 2-4. There will be a 1 p.m. matinee performance on Dec. 3. Ticket prices are S3 for the public. PSU students with I.D. cards are admitted free. ? DR. D'AREUDA ELECTED TO STATE POST Dr. Jeee D'Arruda, chairman of the PSU Physical' Science Department, has been elected secretary of the Science Education Division of the N.C. Academy of Science at its annual meeting in Wilmington. Dr. D'Arruda has present ed several papers to this group over the years. This academy promotes and en courages the study of science throughout the state. DR. REISING HAS ARTICLE, IN NEW PUBLICATION Dr. Robert Relalng, acting director of admissions at PSU, has co- authored an article in the recently pub lished booh, "Essays In Na tive American English," edi ted by BarteH, Jasper and Hoffer of San Antonio, Tex. The other co-author was Dr. dean of arts and sciences at UNC-Greensboro.
