Members of the Black Caucus say that Ruffin can change the image of the HRC. However, it is uncertain whether Ruffin will be able to win the support of activitists in the state. One activist minister, Rev. Leon . White, called for aboli tion of the HRC last Novem ber following a published account . revealing previous HRC leadership had with held information that could have exonerated the Wilming-. ton 10. The Wilmington 10 are serving long prison terms for conviction of firebombing a grocery in Wilmington during the 1971 vigilante attack. The defendants claim they were in a nearby church at the time of the fire. Both of the state's witnesses against the defendants have since "said that they lied during the trial for favors from the prosecuting attorneys.
