Dr. Edelin is the
daughter of Dr. Annette
Phinazee, dean of the
School of Library
Sciences at . North
Carolina Central Univer
sity, Durham.
Dr. Edelin joined the
Coalition staff in 1977
after an outstanding
career as activist, scholar
and academic ad
ministrator. A Phi Beta
Kappa graduate of Fisk
University, Dr. Edelin
did undergraduate work
at Harvard, earned a
".l.A. degree in
Philosophy at the
University of East
Anglia in Norwich,
England and was award
ed the Ph.D. in
philosophy at Boston
University.
Prior to joining the
Coalition, Dr. Edelin
was founder and chair-,
man of the Department
of ' African-American
Studies at Northeastern
University in Boston.
She has taught at
Brandeis University and
Emerson College ' and
