La Petite Garden Club
La Petite Gardeners held their June meeting in
the home of Mrs. Josephine Robinson on Nelson
St. recently. Large bowls of magnolia blossoms
produced a summer fragrance. Jv--,
With the president, Mrs. Genevieve McCrea,
presiding, the hostess opened the Garden Gate with
a song, prayer and flower .quotations by the
members. Following wrapup discussions of the
Queen's Contest and the convention, progress
reports were made for the senior club by Mrs, Mary
C. Grant and for the junior club by Ms. Vivian
Tirhlic. . .
For various acts of kindness rendered to La Petite
members, Ms. Timlic presented certificates of ap
preciation from the club to Mesdames Margaret
Allen, Helen Brown, Loretta Jones, Eldria Sherrill,
Miss M.L. Stephens, Gregory Hart and Dr. J.S.
Parked Mrs. McCrea presented the club members
certificates of appreciation for the full cooperation
they have shown.
The social hour consisted of small talk during a
buffet dinner.
The Rest Home picnic will be in July.

averaging over $9 an hour. Minority

contractors will benefit greatly.

Thrifty Service Club
The Thrifty Service Club met in the home of Mrs.
Laura Thorpe on Apex Road recently in celebration
of Mrs. Thorpe's and Mrs. Ozell Flowers bir
thdates. Mrs. Beatrice Holman, first vice president,
presided. Devotion was led by Mrs. Louise Thomp
son. Committee reports were accepted and plans are
set for the visit and picnic at Murdock Center in
Butner on September 4 at 3 p.m.
Mrs. Thorpe and Mrs. Flowers received lovely
gifts, cards and birthday money. A repast was serv
ed, and Mrs. Mattie Jones thanked the hostesses.
