Mrs. Helen Jones, president of the North Carolina Federation of Negro Women's Clubs and Ms. Freida P. Nash, newly elected president of the Tri-Cities Federated Club, review some of the goals for the year discussed at the July 27th meeting. The main purpose of the newly formed club is to provide an organized group for members to become more ac tively involved in projects which promote the enrichment of our young people's working knowledge of vital community ac tivities such as family life, health, positive . self-development, voting, art,' and business prac tices. . Miss Bailey, Mr. Burton Are Married Miss Clementine Bailey and Larry Donnell Bur ton were married Saturday, July 24, in a ceremony at Greater St.. Paul Baptist Church on Juniper Street. . Dr. W.T, Bigelow officiated. The bride wore a white gown of Raschel lace and organza, trimmed with Chantilly lace. The empire bodice of lace featured a Queen Anne neckline and bishop sleeves. The skirt was detailed with a lace pickup in front and cascading ruffle tiers on the chapel train. The wedding party included Mrs. La Rosa Holmes, matron of honor; George Danny Holmes, best man;4 and Dennis Cates, ring bearer. Bride's attendants were: Mrs. Lucy Bailey, Miss' Shelby Burton, Miss Hattie Cates, Miss Ruth' Elliott, Miss Ann Farmer, Miss Brenda Farmer, Mrs. Betty Johnson, Miss Vickie Johnson, Mrs. Dorothy Stewart, and Miss Annette Thorpe. Groom's attendants were: Amos Bailey, Jr., Dennis Bailey, Gary Bailey, James Bailey, Sammy Bailey, Tony Bailey, James Burton, Ricky Burton, Michael Holmes and James Newman. The ceremony included a musical prelude and five musical selections: "You'll Never .Walk'. Alone," sung by Richard Butler; "Father Open My Eyes," sung by Miss Carolyn Pettiford; "He's That Kind of Friend," sung by Mrs. Evelyn Rainey; and , "The Lord's Prayer" and "You and I," both sung by Waymon Burwell. Williams Family Circle The Williams Family Circle held its regular mon thly meeting for July at the home of Mrs. Geraldine Smith and children, Route 3,-Durham. A fish fry was held. Martin, delegates and the alter assistant professor of nates as directed by the Women's Girls Clubs Meeting In Alaska Representing the North Carolina Federation of Negro Women's. Clubs, Inc., this week in Alaska are Mrs. Edith Johnson,- National Youth Director and Mrs. Sarah Smith, both of Durham; Mrs. June Bess of Wilson and Mrs. Ruth Frinks of Edenton. . These ladies are attending the 86th Anniversary Convention of the NACWC and the 52nd Anniver sary Convention of its National Association of Girls Clubs in Anchorage. The meetings were scheduled from July 31 through August 6. Special post-convention tours are also taking place. Tour I, August 6-8, will visit Nome, the Arc tic Gold Rush Capital, and Kotzebue. Tour II, Ex otic Orient Tour, beginning August 6 and ending August 20, will take the travelers to Tokyo and six other Japanese cities: Hakone, Kyoto, Beppu, Kumamoto and Nagasaki. NACWC is believed to be the oldest black women's organization, having been organized in; 1895 in Boston, Mass. Its five point program sup ports. education, housing, legislation arid health, , ; The organization has had such leadership as Mrs. Mary Church Terrell, its first president; Mrs. Booker T. (Mary) Washington, third president; and, Mrs. Mary McLeod Bethune, eighth president. Mrs. Otelia Champion of Indiana is the current 'president. NACWC is represented in 39 states and the District of Columbia. Many young people have been aided through its Hallie Q. Brown schdlarship which is administered by the United Negro College Fund. The NACWC headquarters is located in' Washington, D.C. MISSKIRKLEY Miss Sharon Kirkley Celebrates "Sweet 16" Ladles Aide Society The Ladies Aide Society held its regular monthly meeting recently in the parlor of the West Durham Baptist Church. ' Miss Miriam Ricks and Mrs. Maurine Jones were the hostesses. . - After the devotional period the secretary, Mrs. Josie Powell; presided over the meeting in the absence of both the president and vice president. Following the business session, dues were collected 0f tne National Colored! Carolina (1971).
