His Honor James Wilson, Mayor, pre siding. A white man, charged with resisting an officer, was fined $25 and costs (ap pealed to Superior Court.) John Taylor for disorderly conduct was fined $5 00 and costs. Juiis Speight charged with commit ting a nuisance was dismissed. Edward Sharper charged with drunkenness, was fined f 3 00 and costs. Attempted Escap An attempt was made by some of the jiil birds to break out of prison, but they were pre vented by the vigilance of Sol. W. IbTasb, the jailor. The floor had bn carefully cut and the damage concealed by the mop-boaxd. A hole had been made entirely through the floor, and the bars of the cell occupied by J. W. The. new bridge, connecting Point Caswell with Cain tuck is finished. It is one of ihe most substantial bridges in New Hanover County, and will prove, we have no doubt, of great advantage io facilitating the transportation of produce from a section of the country, heretofore almost upknown. The people in that seciion are very much rejoiced, and feel as if they belonged somewhere -within the reach of a. trading mart. , -r ,jThe new bridge is about 250 feet Long and fourteen tect wide, - and with a draw 30 feet wide fort he jassge of ves sels. Its fides are protected by a sul stantial hand rail. Mr. R. G. The work on the new hotel iu Golds boro, is progressing. But we hear that it is impossible to complete the building before November next. The hotels at Morehead and Beaufort have closed for the season. We under stand that the patronage received dur ing the season fully met the expectations ot the proprietor. A gentleman just from Washington, N. C, informs that us judge Warren was stridken down with paralysis a few days ago. The many friends of the Judge will learn this with much sorrow. James F. Davis, Esq., cne of the most successtul farmers, of GbUhboro. chipped to Messrs. Sheyock & Rowland, ot St. Louis, Mo., a bale of cotton for exhibition at the great Cotton Fair, to open in that city October 3d; The pie miums for cotton from North Carolina are very liberal $500 for the best bale, $250 tor the second, and $100 for the m third. The Warrenton Gazette tells a singu lar story of a Mr. Shell, who while trav eling in a spring wagon, crossed the road where a boy was felling a tree and was almost totally divested of clothing by the falling limbs. The Daily Evening Press of this city an nounces that there is fraudulent registration in Titusvllle of nearly 1C00 names, and the Press intimates that this is part of a system of colonization which has been generally practiced throughout the oil region. The Press is an independent paper and does not charge ' tne proceeding upon either party. The registration is nearly double that of last year.
