Talk about your gold en ages in good old days' The world has never seen such prog- ress as we are beholding right now, and in conscience and sense of responsibility as much as in ma terial things. A strange mortality has visited the bishops of the Methodist Epis copal Church, South, since the last general conference session. At that session three bishops were elected and two of them have died. Bishop J.J. Tigert, one of the strong men of the church, died soon after his election, having held only one conference. Now Bish op Ward is called away, leav ing only Bishop James Adkins of the new panel of bishops remaining. Since the last general conference Bishops Tigen, Granberry, Smith, Duncan, Galloway and Ward have died. This leaves the episcopacy of the church greatly weakened, as Bishop Wilson, the senior bish op, is 75 years old; Bishop Key is NO years old, and Bishop Litger ald, superannuated, who is also HO years of age. Bishops Hen drix, Morrison, Moss, Candler, and Atkins are the younger mem bers of the college, and upon them must fall the great burden of work.
