Nov. 1. After an early decline today the cotton market firm ed up on covering by local shorts and a renewal of bull support. The close was firm at a net advance of 6 to 2 6 points. Sales were estimated at 200, 000 balee. The opening was steady at a decline of four and eig-ht points and during the early session the market sold off to a net loss of 9 liolnts on the more active months under liquidation and local bear pressure which was en couraged by lower ' Liverpool cables and reports of suspensions in South- ern banking circles. There was buying- by European houses at the decline, and around 10.04 for January. The market was steadier by covering with fresh 'offer ings for short account restricted by week end considerations and the ab seence of bearish news from Southern At Kinston and New Bern with At- , reached late in the dav when January sold atl0.32 and March at 10.31 or about 25 to 26 points above the low level of the morning and four to 19 points net higher.
