Pender's on Tues day after Thanksgiving, December the ird, to jgef an order for .some shingles. l knocked at his door, j I heard pome one walking about in the kitchen. I started to the kitchen and before I could get there, a : woman came to the door. She told me that Mr. Pender had not gotten up, and to go to hU room and go right in; that he was kind of sick thAt m Lfound Pendfcr In bed as she had stat ed. I transacted my business with Pender and left. The woman was engaged in getting breakfast. I pass ed Pender's house after that . and saw her frequently about the yard go ing where she pleased. I went to Pen der's I several tiroes before she left and saw thewoman about the place going wheresoever she desired. I was doing-some work for Mr. Pender and went there to get orders for shingles, nails,, etc. live about one mile from Pender's." x I have the correspondence with Miss Sjostedt and any one can read for himself the negotiations that led to the employment of-this woman.
