PATRIOT New Leaders In SdttPMaut Barium Springs. — There Is something about this weather that reminds a person of snowballing and turkey-shooting. The tame turkey-shooting, by. the wsy, where a turkey's head sticks out of a box and the one who hits it gets it, and in snow-balling every time a high hat appears somebody knocks lt off. That is the way it hag been in the South Piedmont. The Mills Home girls were riding right at the top of the girls' division and they got knocked off. Lexington was/ riding right ont in front in the boys' division and they were knocked off, and now a brand new leader arises in both divisions after playing Just one game each, and that is Thomasvllle. 'Here is the story of the week, k Ogf Tuesday night Barium deBated Mills Home in a doableleader, bumping off those top girls 28-12, and defeating the boys 48-19..Kannapolls took Concord in a doubleheader, their girls winning 24-19, the boys 25-40. Mooresville split with Lexington, the Mooresville girls winning 30-21 and the Lexington boys 34-18. On Thursday night the Children's Home went to Mooresville and defeated them in a double-header, the girls 40-23 aaPthe boys 51-31. On Friday night things really happened at Barium Springs. The Albemarle girls had prerlously giten Barium their only defeat This time Barium won by the slim margin of fire points— 30-25: in the boys game Albemarle jumped in the lead in the first quarter and stayed in the lead until the last minute when Barium pulled ahead >by one point, but they could not hold it. A goal by Albemarle in the last thirty seconds gave them the game 30-29. » Spencer split with Concord, the Spencer girls winning .39-35 and the Concord boys 43-29. Lexington lost a double-header to TlbomasTille, girls 26-17, 'boys 36-34. This wfag Lexington boys' first defeat. Despite the severe weather there was a crowd of spectators and the gate netted $45.00, all of which wen to the March of Dimes. The Blanketeers won the game 75 to 42 but the local boys made a good showing. Those who played on the local team Included Wiles, McMillan, Chapman, Johnson, Whittington, Chamberlain, Hodges, Cheatwood and Turner. The Blanketeers were highly praised for their trip here and the game, which was entirely a benefit event. The Blanketeers paid their own expenses for the trip here. The Ads. Get Results! Wilkesboro Cogers Winners 2 Gomes Wilkesboro high school won both ends of a double header from Roaring Hirer teams Tuesday afternoon at Wilkesboro. The Wilkesboro girls ibroke Into the win colnmn in a thrilling contest 17 to 14. The game was tied 10-10 at halftime and was closely contested throughout. Long was* high scorer for Wilkesboro with ten while EM more and Ward each had seven for Roaring River. The Wilkesboro boys won 25 to 13 in a game in which they grabbed an early lead and coasted to victory. Edwards led for Wilkesboro with 8 and Garris was high for the visitors with five. These games are expected to attract a large crowd. Wilkesboro All Stars Beat Mountain View Wilkesboro all stars won a closely contested game Monday night from Mountain View by the score of 40 to 37. At half time Wilkesboro had a lead of only two points, 21 to 19, and outcome of the game was not decided until the final minute of play.
