Mrs. Don Story .Entertains Her Club Mrs. Don Story was hostess to the members of the 8th Column club at her home in Wilkesboro Friday evening. All members of the club were present and played Tripoli at two tables. Refreshments followed play. Mrs. Shell Entertains Sans Souci Club Mrs. R. H. Shell entertained at her home on C' street Thursday evening for the members of the Sans Souci club. Bridge was played at two tables and was followed by a salad course. Winners of the high and second high score prises were Mrs. J. S. Zimmerman and Mrs. Bay Barnes. ' ' . Mrs. Arthur Lowe Bridge Club Hostess The members of the Pastime bridge club were entertained by Mrs. Arthur Lowe at her home in WHkeaboro Monday evening. High and second high score prizes in the game, which 'was played at two tables, went t*> Mrs. Tommy Caudill and Mrs. Flake Cooke, who also held the traveler's prize. Mrs. Bichard Oranor was the winner in bingo. A salad aourss followed play. Miss Jean Brewer Is Feted at Party Mrs. A. M. Church and Miss Madge KlLby entertained at a lovely party at the church home Thursday evening as a courtesy to Miss Jean Brewer, who is to be married Saturday, Feb. 7, to Fred Inscore. Book was played at two tables arranged in a bridal setting of green and white. Prizes in the game were awarded to Miss Buby Pardue for high score and to Miss Brewer for low score. Miss Mable Sidden received the bingo award. The hostesses' gift to the honoree was crystal in her chosen pattern while from other guests she received a shower of miscellaneous gifts. Mrs. Jay Powell assisted the hostesses in serving a dessert oourae. Glbbs will give a talk on art, which will include a display of art objects. , The Legion Auxiliary meets Monday evening, eight o'clock, at the home of Mrs. R. O. Finley with Mrs. J. W. Leyshon as associate hostess. Woman's Society of Ohifatian Service of Union Methodist church will meet at the church Sunday evening, seven o'clock. Miss Reta Davison will conduct the study course. < D. A. R. Chapter In j Monthly Meeting The January meeting of the Rendezvous Mountain chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution was held Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. W. R. Absher with Mrs. Robert S. Oibbs and Mrs. J. H. Whicker, Sr., as associate hostesses. Mrs. Russell O. Hodges, the regent, was In charge. For the program Miss Lucy Finley gave a short sketch 'of the three United States presidents. Andrew Jackson, James K. Polk, and Andrew Johnson, furnished by North Carolina. Miss Rebecca Moseley, - Red Cross Secretary, gave a resume of a Red Cross meeting she attended, where plans were made .for the Red Cros8 to furnish blood plasma to hospitals and doctors. i The meeting was largely attended and during the social hour the hostesses served refreshments. Holder-Gilreath Vows Announced Mr. and Mrs. F. C. .Holder, of Moravian Falls, announce the marriage of their {laughter, Betty Lee, to Mr- Ralph Norvell Gllreath, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Gilreath, of North Wilkesboro. The vows were spoken Saturday, January 17, at the home of Rev. J. E. Hayes. Following the ceremony the couple left for a wedding trip through Florida and are now at home with the bridegroom's parents. Hayes-Eller Vows Are Solemnized Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Hayes, Wilkesboro, Route One, a nnounce the marriage of their daughter, Jettie Elma, to William Lester Eller, of Millers Creek, on January 21, at the home of Rev. A. W. Eller, the officiating minister. ■The bride chose for her nuptials & light blue and grey dress with black accessories. She to a graduate of Wilkesboro high school and is now employed at the <*. P. Grocery store in North Wilkesboro. The groom, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Eller, of (Millers Creek, is a graduate of the Millers Creek high school. The couple are making their home at Millers Creek. FARM BUREAU OPENS MEETING Asheville, Feb. 1.—Approximately 550 delegates braved the wintry blasts of snow and ice today to attend the ■ opening sessions of the North Carolina Farm Bureau's convention at Vanderbilt Hotel. The four-day program began with a vesper service sponsored hy Associated Women, an affiliated group. Previously delegates had registered to start the convention. ^ ^ . R. Flake Shaw of Greensboro, executive vice president of the bureau, accompanied about 2'50 members on the Goldsboro-Aaheville train trip. He said 1,500 members were expected, but many were prevented by the weather. C. G. Miss Laaley is a native of Greensboro and was graduated from high school in Jamestown. She waa graduated from Pfeiffer Junior College, Mlsenhelmer. Last Winter she trained in Atlanta, Ga., for the position she, now holds in the mailing division of Sears, Roebuck and' company. Mr. Elchelberger Is a Lincolnton High School graduate, and attended the University of North Carolina, Chapel iHill. During the war, he served four years in the army. lie has been here 10 months a« a buyer for Sears, Roebuck and Company. He is a native of Portsmouth, Ohio. A Dairy oows have 98 per cent single births, beef cattle 99.6 per cent. Most of the rest are twins. Triple births occur at the rate of 1 in 300 with dairy oows, or about one-third of 1 per cent. — -J 7 ■ N OT I CE!
