Arthur Lowe was hos tess to the members of the Pas time bridge club at_her home in Wilkesboro Monday evening. The game, played at two tables, was followed by a dessert course. Prises were awarded to Mrs. Flake Cook for high score, to Mrs. Bob Kite for second high score, and to Mrs. Shoun Ker baugh for bingo. Workers Council In Dinner Meeting The members of the Workers Council of the North Wilkesboro First Methodist church held a dinner meeting Monday evening at the Carolina Restaurant with covers being laid for twenty. Following the dinner Miss Re becca Raper, director of relig ious education, directed a wor ship period, Mr. Robert Morrow, the church school superintendent, presided for a business session, after which Rev. Russell L. j Young, the new pastor, spoke to the group. Fidel is Class Met Tuesday Night The members of the Fidelis class of the First Baptist church held a business and social meet ing Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Rufus B. Church with Mrs. W. R. Harmon, Mrs. Claude Buchanan, and Mrs. T. J. Fra zier as associate hostesses. Twen ty-three members were present. Mrs. Fred Emerson, the presi dent, presided for the business period, Mrs. C. E. Jenkins, Sr., led the devotions, and Miss Lil lian Stafford conducted a quiz on the church constitution in which Mrs. J. Q. Adams was the winner of the prize. Refresh ments were enjoyed during the social hour. Oakwoods W.M.S. Holds Meeting Mrs. Mont Jones was hostess to the Women's Missionary So ciety of the Oakwoods Baptist church Friday evening at her home. Miss Nora Laws presided at the meeting. Following the business session a song, "Send the Light," was sung by the group. Mrs. Charles Steelman gave the devotional, followed with prayer by Miss Laws. Jlrs. Rex Stroud was in charge of the program on "Christ, the answer for the Pagan People." Discussions was by Mrs. Carl Canter, Mrs. Glenn Anderson, Mrs. Archie Anderson and Mrs. Raymond Minton. Closing prayer was by Mrs. Charles Steelman. Mrs. Jones was assisted in serving by her daughter, Mrs. Archie Anderson.?Reported. First Methodist To Have Mission Study Th annual fall mission study of the Woman's Society of Christian Service of the North Wilkesboro First Methodist church will be held in the educational building Tuesday evening, Octobe 18. "Ja pan Beings Again" is the theme for study to be presented by Mrs. Don Moffatt and Miss Rebecca Raper. Mrs. H. M. Bivins is to be the devotional leader. All women of the church are urged to attend the study, which will begin at 6 o'clock, and to be held in the chapel. A buffet sup per is to be served during a short! intermission. ' Garden Club Met Tuesday Afternoon i Mrs. W. F. Gaddy, Mrs. Edd F. Gardner, and Mrs. Thurmond Kenerly combined hospitality to the members of the Garden club in their monthly meeting held Tuesday afternoon at the Gaddy home in Finley Park. Fourteen members were present. Mrs. H. G. Duncan, the new president, presided for the business session during which time it was decided to have for the club theme for the year, Appreciation of Flow ers. Interesting discussions were engaged in of the recent meet ing of District Two of the Gar den club held here at the Wom an's clubhouse and followed by a luncheon at the Carolina Res taurant. The meeting, attended by approximately seventy - two people, was featured with a talk by Dr. John T. Wpyland, pastor of the First Baptist church, who spoke to the group on "Hobbies and Health." At the meeting Mrs. Edd F. .Gardner was elected as president of the district and Mrs. Frank Tomlinson as secretary, both of North Wilkesboro. Spec ial visitors at the meeting were Mrs. George W. Little, of Liles ville, first vice president of the State Garden club, who made a talk; Mrs. C. A. Graham and Mrs. Ben Smith, both.of Ram seur, director and secretary of District Six. Mrs. Graham brought greetings from her dis trict. For the program at the meet ing Tuesday Mrs. Arthur Venable told about the restoration of old buildings and gardens making special mention of the famed Colonial Ogelthorpe garden at Savanah, Ga.; a block in Little Rock, Arkansas; and some old buildings in her home town at Cheraw, S. C. Mrs. Gardner made a talk on suitable containers and flower arrangements for various places. Refreshments were enjoyed dur ing the social hour. Cases Settled In Superior Court Wilkes Superior court is en gaged in trying cases on docket for the second week of the Oc tober term, with Judge J. A. Rousseau, of North Wilkesboro, presiding. In the case of R. W. Pardue versus Charlie Johnson the issue was settled with a consent judg ment in the sum of $10Q. Marriage of Mrs. Marie Cau dill Killen and William R. Killen was declared null and void. A divorce was granted in the cases of James C. Johnson versus Gladys Roten Johnson. The case of Duane Church versus Charlie Johnson was set-' tied by compromise judgment. o The Baptist Hour of the South ern Baptist Convention went on a year-round basis October 2 over 132 ABC stations.
