MISS MAMIE SOCKWELL — EDITOR tWIMitltiMiiMimm** — Day-Kelly Pair Complete Plans For Their Wedding Plans have been completed (or the wedding of Miss Virginia Bvelyn Day, daughter of Mr. and (Mrs. Walter M. Day, and Joseph OP. Kelly, son of Mr. and Mrs. jWalter P. Kelly, of North Wilkesboro. The ceremony will take place Saturday, September 2, at three o'clock in the afternoon in the chapel of the First Methodist church. Rev. Russell L.( Young, the pastor, will officiate. The bride's parents, who will reeeive afterwards at their home in Finley Park, have issued invitations. The bride will be escorted by I her father and will have as her honor attendant, Mrs. Robert Andrews, North Wllkesboro. Miss Martha Jean Oantt, of Statesvile, cousin of the bride Is to serve as flower girl. Mr. Kelly will be best man for his son, and the ushers are to be Jimmy Day, brother of the bride, and Lewis Hill Jenkins, both of this city. Wedding music will be furnished by Miss Lois Scroggs, organist; and Mrs. Wake Clark and Lewis Vickery, soloists. The Doughton Girls Feted At Party Miss Mary Yeakle Phipps was hostess at a card party at her home in Wllkesboro Tuesday afternoon honoring Misses Betsy, Becca, and Jon Lee Doughton, who with their parents, Mr. and Jvfrs. Claude T. Doughton, are leaving soon to make their home at ■parta. Rook and canasta were pplayed at three tables, and at the ■conclusion of play the hostess was aided by her mother, Mrs. Jay Jones, in serving a dessert course. The three honorees received gifts from Miss Phipps, Walker-Wilson Wedding Vows Elkin — Miss Margaret Elisabeth Wilson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Malcomb Wilson of Lattimore, was married to Jack Arnold Walker, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Purvis Gwyn Walker of this city, at 4:30 p. m., on Thursday, Aug. 3, at the Double Springs Baptist Church near Shelby. The Rev. John W. Suttle officiated. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a dress of white organdy, fashioned with a deep neckline, a wide collar outlined with embroidery, and a ballerina skirt trimmed with wide scallops of embroidered organdy. Her fingertip veil of illusion was draped from a Juliette cap ornamented with seed pearls. She carried a heart-shaped bouquet of gardenias, tuberoses, carnations, and nylon net showered with gypsophilia. Miss Gwendylyn Walker of Elkin, sister of the bridegroom, was the bride's only attendant. Kenneth Whltlock of Gastonia was best man. Ushers were William Wilson, brother of the bride, Alan Browning 3d, Paul Shore and Robert Long. Mrs. Walker is an honor graduate of Gardner-Webb Junior College at Boiling Springs. The bridegroom attended the Gardner-Webb Junior College following his graduation from the Elkin High School, and was a voice pupil of Dr. Stephen Morrisett of the Gardner-Webb faculty. He is a Sunday afternoon soloist over Elkin Radio Station WKBC. The bridegroom is a grandson of Rev. N. T. Jarvis and the late Mrs. Jarvis, Roaring River, Route 2. His mother is the former Miss Nell Jarvis. Colvard-Richardson Engagement Announced Mrs. Ben Hamilton Colvard, Sr., announces the engagement of her daughter, Mary Lena, and William R. Richardson, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Richardson of Galax, Virginia. The wedding is planned for early | Fall. .« Miss Colvard was graduated from Salem College, Winston-Salem. with a B. 8. Degree In home economics and has done graduate work at Woman's College, Greensboro. Mr RichardBon w.hs graduated from Appalachian State Teachers College, Boone, with a B. S. Degree in sciences and has been wording there toward a Master's Degree. He served in the Medical Corps of the U. S. Navy. Mesdames Moore, Brame Entertain On Tuesday Mrs. Henry Moore and her sister, Mrs. Watson Brame, entertained at a small informal tea at the Moore home on E Street Tuesday afternoon as a courtesy for Mrs. J. L. Durrett and her daughter, Mrs. I. B. Bright, both of Greenwood, Miss., who are spending the month of August at Blowing Rock with Mrs. J. H. Whicker, Jr., of this city, another daughter of Mrs. Durrett. Another honor guest was Mrs: C. T. Doughton, who is leaving soon to make her home at Sparta. The three honorees were remembered with gifts. The guests came at four o'clock and during the hour were served tempting refreshments. Oakwoods W: M. S. Monthly Meeting Miss Nora Laws was hostess to the Woman's Missionary Society of the Oakwoods Baptist church at the home of her sister, Mrs. Charles Steelman. Friday evening. A weiner roast was enjoyed by the group before the program. Opening the program "I Need Thee Every Hour'' was sung by the group. Mrs. Edd Cleary gave the devotional, followed with prayer by Miss Nora Daws. The book "Faithful Also in Much" by John E. Simpson, was very ably presented by Mrs. J. M. Canter and Miss Laws. The meeting was closed with prayer. The September meeting Will be held with Mrs. Edd Cleary at her home. — Lutherans To Hold Services Sunday Worship services sponsored by the Lutheran Synod of North Carolina will be held in the WHkesboro ^resbyterian church Sunday morning beginning with Sunday school at 10 o'clock and preaching at 11.
