Mr. and Mrs. John ^Russell, of Concord, were guests here for the week-end of their daughter and her . husband, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Hill Jenkins. Mr. and Mrs. George Wilson, of Belmont, spent the week-end here with Mrs. Wilson's mother, Mrs. A. H. Casey. Mrs. R. C. Betts, of Charlotte, Is here on a two-weeks' visit In the home tif Mr. and Mrs. Carl E. VanDeman. Mrs. Betts is an aunt of Mrs. VanDeman. Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Culler and 1 two sons, Bob and Jiih, of Bluefield, West Virginia, visited for several days here last week with Mr. Culler's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Culler. Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Gaskins and children, Evelyn and Arthur, of Detroit, Michigan are visiting at' Congo with Mrs. Gaskins' mother, Mrs. A. G. Foster, and other relatives. Mr. add Mrs. Mark Phillips, accompanied by relatives from the eastern part of the state, are on a two-weeks' tour through the New England States and points in Canada. Miss Joann Vaught has returned to the home of her parents, Mr.' and Mr*. E. E. Vaught, in Wilkesboro following a two-months' visit with relatives at Atlanta, Ga. and Arlington, Va. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Cashioit and three children, Lindsay, jiai*y Frances, and Susannah, are vacationing in Florida this week, spending most of their time at points .on the east coast. Mr. and Mrs. Olin Speer and Mr. Speer's nephew, Frederick Speer, all of Winter Hav6n, Florida, are visiting here this week in the home of Mrs. Speer's sister, Mrs. Guy Lillard, Mr. Lillard, and other relatives. Recent visitors here in the home of Mrs. E. F. Stafford were Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Gragg and daughter, Caroline, Mr. and Mrs. David Owens, of Brunswick, Ga., and Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Gragg, of Bainbridge, Ga., and Montreal Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Walsh and their son, Steve, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lee at Spruce Pine from Friday until Monday. On Saturday evening the Lees and their visitors went to Cherokee to see the drama "Unto These Hills." Mrs. Phillip Brame and son, Marvin, are on an extended visit with Mrs. Brame's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Weisner, at Waldo, Fla. They were accompanied down by Mr. Brame, who with Mrs. Brame, spent a few days at Daytona Beach. Mr. Frank Stafford, Misses Lillian and Mary Lindsay Stafford went to Winston-Salem Sunday to attend the Picnic dinner and reunion of the Stafford family held in Reynolds Park. The event was attended by approximately 100 people. Mr. and Mrs. Ivey Moore had as' their guests Sunday for the day Mr. and Mrs. Mark Goforth and two daughters, Misses Helen and Carolyn Goforth, of Lefioir. Mrs. Goforth on Sunday morning taught the combined Adult Bible classes of the First Methodist church. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Robinette, of Shellman, Ga., after visiting here and in the county for several days with relatives, have gone to Winston-Salem to visit there with their daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Pratt, before returning to their home in Georgia. Mrs. Ed M. Anderson and daughter, Miss Billie Anderson, of West Jefferson, and Mrs. Ivey Moore and son, Mr. Edward Moore, of this city, left today for Manteo, where they will see a performance of "The Lost Colony." They plan to return home Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Lassiter, of Pour Oaks, visited here last week with their daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Sturdivant. The Lassiters "were en route for a trip through Wetsern North Carolina, which included a stop at Cherokee to see the pageant, "Unto These Hills." Mrs. L. S. Spainhour and three children, Mary, Jimmy, and Sid, spent the week-end at Charlotte in the home of Mrs. E. B. Cochran. On Saturday evening they attended a picnic supper and family reunion of the Cochran family held at the home of Mr. and MrB. J. D. Love. Around twenty were present. Mrs. W. R. Absher, Mrs. A. H. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Duncan are enjoying a week's vacation at Shatley Springs in Ashe county. Miss Norma Stevenson was the" guest of Miss Lucy Finley the past week-end, at the Finley cottage on the Brushies. Mrs. Gordon Finley, and Miss Mary Elmore Finley are visiting in Milford, Virginia, with Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Blatt. Miss Lucy Finley has returned to her home In the city, after spending a month at the Finley cottage on the Brushies. Mr. and Mrs. Ira D. Llewellyn and children, Doorthy Ann and Jimmy, of Wilson, visited in the home of Mr. Llewellyn's sister, Mrs. H. G. Nichols,,Sunday. Mrs. Homer Wellborn,% of Charlotte, fell and broke two bones in a foot last week. Mrs. Wellborn Is the former Miss Elsie Nichols, of this city.Mr. Cowles Hayes, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. R. Hayes, and Mr. John Hayes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hayes, joined the air force recently and are now in training at San Antonio, Texas. Attorney J. F. Jordan, who has been ill at his home in Wllkesboro for the past three weeks, was taken by ambulance Tuesday to Veterans hospital at Johnson City, Tenn., for treatment. Mr. and Mrs. J. Q. Adams, with a group of friends from the eastern part of the state, were in Cherokee last Wednesday and Thursday, and on Wednesday evening saw the drama "Unto These Hills." Mr. Jim Moore spent the weekend at Monroe and on Saturday evening was a groomsman in the wedding of Mr. Vernon Wall, of Monroe, and Miss Betty Hill, which took place at eight o'clock in the Marshvllle Baptist church. The men were fraternity brothers at Wake Forest College. Mrs. R'. C. Jennings and daughters, Misses Virginia and Dorothy Jennings, spent last week at Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach. They visited their daughter and sister, Mrs. Melvln G. Stahl, and Mr. Stahl, and Dorothy remained for a week's visit. Mrs. R. S. Shoaf, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Greene and son, Robert, of this city, and Miss Sarah Deaton, of Kernersville, who is visiting the Greenes, have returned from a trip to Asheville and the Smoky Mountains National Park. At Cherokee they saw a performance of "Unto These Hills." and Mrs. Joseph Milan, who live In Ashevllle, and on Saturday they went to Cherokee to see "Unto These Hills," Cherokee drama. Mrs. C. E. Jenkins, who had been in Greensboro for a week, came home with Mrs. Moore. Miss Myrtle Hunt, who had been here for several weeks nursing her mother, Mys.
