THE BIG DAY for all children in this area is Thursday, December 20th, when Santa Claus will come to the Firemen’s Christmas Tree on Trade Street about 6:45 with a gift for every child, and that means every child white and colored in Tryon and outside as far away as they want to come. Over 1,000 children are expected and gifts of fruit and candy will be given out by Santa Claus as long as the supply lasts ... Icy roads and freezing rain fell throughout the southeast today. Jim Jackson and Jim Tapley were the final place winners in the Spartanburg Bridge Tournament which netted $200 for the Cancer Fund. Mrs. Baxter Haynes and Jules Feder of Tryon were third place finalists. In a special event Mrs. Baxter- Haynes and Jules Feder were second; and Continued on Back Page_ BULB SNATCHERS FINED The two young men arrested stealing the pretty electric light bulbs from the Christmas trees on Trade Street last week, were fined $25.00 and the costs by Magistrate Monte Dedman on Monday night at the regular weekly session of his court. Fine and costs amounts to court. Fine and costs amount to about 14 years of age, was turned over to the Juvenile Court under jurisdiction of Clerk of Court Robert S. McFarland. In addition to the fines and costs the bulbs were returned to Chair man Harrison Bridgeman Jr., who replaced them in the trees. Officers stated that they believed if crimes could be detected early enough it would prevent more se rious offenses later in life. Seventeen other cases were also disposed of during the evening’s session. “Rod, Gun & ‘Seed’ ” BY WOODS RIDER ATT’N YOUNG ARTISTS: Rules for its annual conservation poster contest have been announc ed by the National Wildlife Federa tion which sponsors the event each year among" youngsters in primary and secondary schools. Young artists are advised to start work early on their projects since all entries must be received not later than January 31, 1952. Any standard poster medium will be accepted by the judges, but since the posters are designed for reproduction, color is preferred.
