An Old Timer Observes One wish that I have this Christ mas season is that Santa Claus will bring the young lady in Ballenger’s window a nice warm bathrobe and - an electric heater, or that Broadus and Matt will tuck her into bed between heavy blankets. On these cold nights, it gives me a chill to think of her standing there in her filmy nightie. Ballenger’s new front is a far cry from the Ballenger’s I first knew. Then it was a frame build ing standing somewhat farther back from the street. There was a platform across the front, and, especially on Saturdays, usually one or two wagons with cotton covers over hickory bows would ibe standing there while their own ers were inside trading hand hewn oak cross ties for supplies. The motive power was mule teams or ox teams, and sometimes even a mule and a cow hitched together.. The only other general store was Livingston’s, which stood about where the bus station is now. There were no neon lights or filmy nighties in those days. “Old Timer.” * Lions Meet Tuesday The Lions Club will;meet Tues day night at 7:30 at Oak Hall hotel with Mack Durham in charge of the program.
