The new Reservation, located in Ruther ford County, will replace 55 year old Camp Schiele in Tryon. Schiele has served thousands of Scouts in their camping program but is now inadequate for the large numbers of youths entering the program. This is the second phase of the campaign to build the Scout Reservation. The first phase started in 1976 and was brought to a successful conclusion. A two year delay in closing the state road and the inroads of inflation has caused a postponement in building the first camp on the Reservation. This phase of the campaign will enable the camp to be opened in 1982. The campaign was kicked off at a dinner at the Club Carolina in Cherryville on February 21. Phillips is married to the former Sondra Phillips also of Spruce Pine and they are the parents of two daughters. They are members of the Methodist Church.
